I recently attended Evergreen’s Christmas band concert. The concert included sixth through twelfth grade. Sixth graders played the songs: Tomahawk Dance and Christmas Sleigh Ride. The seventh graders played Soulmate, ‘Tis the Season, and The Red, The White and The Blues. Eighth grade preformed Bourbon Street Barbecue, Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree, and The Washington Post. Finally the show ended with the high school concert band. They played the songs Angels on Parade, Mele Kalikimaka and The 3-Minute Nutcracker. As well as The Hallelujah Chorus and ending with Santa Baby. The middle school students did very well. They did a great job and were very mature when performing. The sixth graders did an amazing job for it being their first performance and first year learning an instrument. The seventh graders did very well of being loud and also knew their music very well. It was nice to see how much students can learn and grow in one year. The eighth grade did a marvelous performance. They played songs that I believed to be advanced for their age. There was a lot of students in the eighth grade band and they did a great job performing. The students looked like they were actually having fun and enjoying playing their …show more content…
Not only is he the band director for high school, he also directs the middle school. Not only is the high school band director great, so are the students. The high school concert band is made up of over 145 students; ranging from freshman to seniors. In the beginning of the performance they started with all of the students scattered throughout the stands and performed a sort of flash mob. They did a great job moving swiftly and efficiently around the gym. Yet, I it was not as exciting as a flash mob because the students were all dressed the same and placed on the edge of each bleacher. The entire band did an amazing job and were legitimately skilled for their
Band is an elective given in elementary schools through college schools around the world. Many schools come together and compete with one another. School bands also perform at football games, basketball games, and in parades. Most school marching bands are accompanied by a color guard, a group of performers, who add a visual interpretation to the music by using props, flags and rifles. A school marching band apparel includes a military type of style, the school's colors, along with the school's name and mascot. It is important to have band as an elective in schools because it helps kids display their emotions and maybe for some it is a hobby. Band directors have said that having band helps young emotional development, helps contribute to a more intellectual culture, builds teamwork and self confidence. It is hard to imagine being in this amazing class and coming upon these out of the box stereotypes and misconceptions of being a nerd, lazy or unathletic. These stereotypes and misconception mainly come from basically movies, shows and books things that are being aired. For example, a kid show, spongebob, kids from ages three to twelve are watching these shows maybe even teens and adults. A spongebob episode fifteen, season two is titled “band geeks”, putting this low degrading name on the group of kids performing at football games with instruments
On November 16th, 2013, I attended a concert choir, fall choral concert. This event took place on the Wheaton College Campus, in the Edman Chapel at 7:30 pm. The chapel was well-lit, with long pews for the audience to be seated. The concert began with the audience looking up into a balcony, where the ensemble stood in neat rows. They watched the conductor, who stood on a stage in front of the audience, waiting for their cue.
Band is family. When your student walks onto campus, he or she is instantly adopted into the strongest society on campus. They will be spending their school days among the top achievers on campus, with fellow students who look out for one another and steer each other away from trouble instead of towards it. Teachers, staff, parents, and volunteers watch over all the kids as if they were their own.
For my first concert report, I have decided to attend the Applied Music Student Recital. The musical performance was at Palomar College on February 27, 2015 from 1:00P.M.--2:00P.M. at the performance lab room D-10. The type of music that was presented at the concert was a brass ensemble, chamber music, classical, contemporary, jazz, opera, percussion, and many vocal arrangements. There was a total of eight musical Palomar College student performers who are majoring in music theory. I am only going to focus on a few of the musical pieces that I enjoyed most. The majority of the performers were dressed in formal attire. As the men were dressed in a dress shirt, a tie or bow tie of their choice, black slacks, and dress shoes. As for the women, they wore dresses, skirts and dress shoes. Also there was a pianist, accompanist who is a Palomar College music teacher named Ruth Weber. The performance was in a music concert hall with roughly fifty audience members.

It is about who I am off the podium. For the past five years (I marched up as an 8th grader), I have been proving something to these people, so that they trust me in this position. The character of drum major or leader is one I have been perfecting since I was a freshman. For a long time I was just an actor trying to be a character. Eventually, I had acted the part so much that I became it, and it was my role. I give respect to receive it. I build real relationships of with members to achieve trust, accountability, and effort. When people are torn up inside because of their home life, which is quite frequent in Lenoir City Tennessee, I am their shoulder to cry on, or a set of ears to vent to, or a buffer to dull their anger. When people are frustrated with me for some reason, I seek them out and learn what I can do different. When there are five flavors of gum stuck to the floor of the band room at 11:30 on a Friday night, I get on my knees with a plastic fork and start scraping. When the band director constantly yells at me for this that and the other, I take into account the criticisms and practice harder. The band and the director see this character I have transformed into, or maybe the one I have always been, and that is why I have the honor of standing on the podium and wearing the gloves. I have become the band’s teacher, nurse, cattle driver, answer dispenser, and friend. Somehow, those all add up to leader. I refuse to let them down, rather I lift them
I attended the Spring Coral Concert in which included a men’s chorus, a women’s chorus, and a chamber choir. The men’s chorus sang “Yo le Canto todo el Dia” and I Am in Need of Music” by David L. Brunner. The women’s chorus sang “I Am Not Yours” by Victor Johnson and “Ascribe to the Lord” by Rosephanye Powell. The chamber choir sang “Even when He is Silent” by Kin André Arnesen and “Elijah Rock” by arr. Moses Hogan.
The Dougherty Valley High School choirs that performed in the Dougherty Valley Performing Center were amazing for being such small choirs. This concert took place on December 6th, 2011. The director of this choir is Diana Walker, and she has been teaching choral music at Dougherty Valley High School for many years and had choir experience herself for many years. The Dougherty Valley choirs are all high school choirs and they are one of the best in this state. The two types of choir that performed at this concert were Women’s Chorus and Mixed Choir. Back then the choirs didn’t attend the annual Golden State Competition, but as years went by, they became more known and they gradually became one of the top 10 choirs at the Golden State Competition.
The acapella group The Sweet Trebles were performing at Titan Club during dinner. That night people were given a show during their dinner. The Sweet Trebles did an awesome job. Their performance went very well I thought. My favorite song and their best song of the night was Hallelujah. It was nice having a change of atmosphere in the Titan Club. Usually it is either quite or loud like a cafeteria. Also it changed the mood there as well as people’s attitudes were happier. The acoustics there weren’t the greatest but the group still sang on key and were loud enough for everyone to her. Things I would have changed was probably where they were standing it was kind of dead center and in the way of everything. I would’ve made put them somewhere
On Wednesday, May 23rd, I attended the College Choir concert in the Reamer Campus Center. The choir performed a variety of songs, ranging from pieces in Latin to traditional American folksongs. Two of the pieces featured solos, and one even featured percussion instruments. Mrs. Elinore Farnum provided piano accompaniment for each of the songs, and performed beautifully. I was extremely impressed by the talented choir members and their ability to sing such a varied range of songs.
Although the senior concert band has improved greatly since the Fall Concert, there are still many musical aspects that prevent me from giving my primary ensemble a mark in 90th percentile (or above). Three specific examples demonstrate appropriate rationale for the assignment of 85%. Such examples include; good rhythmic complementation, good musicality and proper usage of dynamic contrast. and poor dynamic blending. For example in section B of Sleigh Ride, each section of the band made sure there part rhythmically complemented other sections. The percussion section acted as a “ pulse”, the bass line supported them, and shared the melody and harmony. Since these highlighted sections had good rhythm the music’s “spirit” would have transferred
Primarily, holiday music in public school concerts came seem offensive to students singing as well as the parents
And yes the overload of request coming from the schools is a direct result of this communication. Normally I would have listen to the rumblings of other moms, voiced my opinion to them, but never brought it to the school's attention as I've done with all things MBE over the last 10 years. But when you asked the overlooked stagehand's moms to make and/or buy props and volunteer our time, it was just too much! Thanks for your response and your tireless effort. I am glad you are getting the help you need with this production and I hope you find a way to make every 6th grader
For this concert report I chose to go to a performance of student composers held at the Kimball Recital Hall. I chose this one because I wanted to see some of the talent that my peers have in the music realm, and also it was one of the only concerts I have been able to attend because I usually work at night. It was impressive to hear pieces composed by students. I cannot imagine creating something as complex as a musical composition, much less actually performing it, so this aspect of the concert was particularly awe-inspiring. There was a large attendance, and I think that much of the audience consisted of friends of the composers and/or performers. I went with three friends, who I convinced by telling it would be interesting to see student composers.
“How old are you? That’s right, I am the adult and you kids should listen to me! I have the experience and knowledge and you guys don’t!” yelled the coordinator who I collaborated with to plan a beautification day in his high school. This happened during my Junior year in one of my most dedicated extracurricular activities, Community Action for Teens. Along with 3 of my friends who are officers of the youth group and our program site manager and my mentor, we were working on building our capacity with other organizations and local high schools. In particular, we choose to work with one local high school. I was filled with joy to further apply my leadership skills to help out this high school. Even though I did not attend this school, because I got into the Charter program to attend Chamblee High School, the high school was still my home school, so it had all of my childhood friends that I grew up with.
