A Great Story Everyone knows a good story when they read one. There are elements that will cause one story to be better than another. Every reader wants to read a story that they cannot put down. Stories need to be unique with surprising elements that no other book has. To have this amazing story that is better than any other story, it needs some great elements. One story will be better than another when you have the correct point of view, detailed characters and growing suspense.

They are important because if they’re not detailed, they are boring, and when you have boring characters the reader isn’t intrigued and don’t want to read the story. All characters need to have specific characteristics that make them that character. If stories didn’t have characters with those specific features and details, then all characters would be the same and nobody would be interested in the story. In an interview, Lindsay Steward said, “Characters need to be authentic,…they need to make decisions based on what their beliefs and values would dictate, rather than simply to move the plot forward.” This shows that detailed characters help to make an amazing story when they remain true to themselves and make their own decisions as they would, rather than the author. The reader can relate to the story and visualize it when characters have realistic qualities that people have in real life. Others may think that characters are just in a story to move it along, and that they just need to be basic and you can still have the same amazing story. This is not true unique, detailed characters are critical to having a great story.
