Controversy between life and death “When a patient says, ‘Help me doctor,’ he is assuming that his doctor is on the side of his life.” This quote by Dr.Margaret Cottle , who is a palliative care physician , shows the mentality that most patients have when it comes to patient care. Euthanasia is a very controversial topic that has been debated on throughout the years. Whether it may be active euthanasia, passive euthanasia, voluntary euthanasia, involuntary euthanasia, indirect or physician assisted the morals and reasoning behind each are controversial. Though some people may believe euthanasia may be justified in a critical situation and critical punishment, euthanasia should be prohibited because euthanasia weakens societies respects for the sanctity of life, euthanasia might not be in the person’s best interest, and euthanasia affects other peoples rights, not just the patients. Those whom support euthanasia believe that people have the right to die(Euthanasia ) . But the question may be under what circumstances and why humans have the right to take one another’ s life away. Supporters also argue that euthanasia provides a sense of comfort to the family and the terminally ill that one is put out of their pain and suffering ( Euthanasia). But do the ill , family , or whomever who is making this decision to take away a life ; acquire the correct frame of mind and stability to make the decision to take away a life ? When debating if one should be support or oppose euthanasia issues that come to light are legal , medical, political and religious. In spit of these reasons to advocate euthanasia a large portion of society believes that Euthanasia thinks otherwise. Christians believe euthanasia disrespects the sanctity of life... ... middle of paper ... ...s opinion may differ to support or rather oppose of euthanasia ; depending on their already established beliefs and views on life, death, religion and other factors that contribute to the ongoing controversial topic. Though some people may believe euthanasia may be justified in a critical situation and under critical punishment, Euthanasia should be prohibited because it destroys peoples respect for the sanctity of life , euthanasia might not be in a persons best interest, and euthanasia affects other people’s rights, not just those of the patients. The National Health Service indicates that euthanasia and or assisted suicide is against the law in many countires. Some people believe euthanasia can be monitored and controlled. But how ? how can we ensure the safety of our lives and a doctors hands and how can we protect those lives who have no voice to be heard?
