Essay Report Common Hour

Common hour was held in multipurpose room A of the Frank G. Pogue student center on September 12th, 2017 with an attendance of around 40 students. The goal listed for this common hour was to explain what classes to plan for junior and senior year and to give instructions on how to schedule and apply for internships. This common hour was our last departmental meeting. I though the meeting was going to over view the next few weeks and how to start thinking about the things we are going to need in the coming weeks and semesters.
Our session began with asking the group if we had been successful using the ideas on how to acclimate to college life and if we had figured out how to use time management. Dr. Hedderick said at this point we are seasoned college students and should start to realize where we need to do additional work to improve our academic standing. We discussed junior year, this included the classes we are going to take and what semester. Next, we talked about how to get your foot in the door at a medical facility by completing an internship during the summer between junior and senior year. Internships are not mandatory but they can give you a leg up in senior year and after graduating by being familiar at a possibly employer. Dr. Hedderick discussed where to sign up to meet with your advisor to go over the “game plan” of the next semester a few weeks before scheduling occurs. At this meeting, your “plan” is made into a plan A, plan B, and plan C and you receive your personal identification number or PIN which you need to register. Dr. Hedderick explained in what order scheduling would happen, what leans and holds were and what a true conflict in scheduling is. Scheduling doesn’t need to be hectic and stressful, if you prepare for all the options and talk to the advisor with adequate time
