Historically Tic Tac has been successful at satisfying its’ customers wants’ and needs because they could adjustments to their product. By meeting those needs, this has allowed them to stay compatible with the ever-changing market. When Tic Tac first began in 1969, they created many methods to connect with their customers. There ideas ranged from creating catchy jingles, such as "Put a Tic Tac in your mouth and get a BANG out of life!", adding new flavors such as cinnamon and tangerine to their products in the 1970s, and during the health craze in the 1980s, they began advertising that their breath mint was only one and a half calories to gain a slight advantage over competitors. Tic Tacs’ reputation as the most popular mint in the United States was short lived once the new breath mint “Altoids” hit the market. Altoids were best known for being “curiously strong" mints, thus attracting customers. As more mint competitors such as Icefresh, Ice Chips, Everest, Cool Chews, Cool Blast, Blitz, and Ice Breakers came to the mint market, it made it more difficult for Tic Tac to stay compatible with consumers. I believe that Tic Tac became less competitive in the breath mint market when they stopped adjusting their products to meet the needs and wants of their consumers. That very reason is why they dropped from the number one spot as the best breath mint in the United States. Tic Tac did not introduce any new produces until 2008, when they introduced a new product called Tic Tac Chill. The major features that made Tic Tac Chill significantly different from the rest of the products was that it was larger than the original mints, sugar free, and came in new flavors, such as Exotic Cherry and Paradise
