Hamlet is a play written by William Shakespeare a period when religion played a huge role. All the characters especially the protagonist, hamlet, made a great amount of decisions based on religion. Almost every single action and dialogue has at least a minor bit of religion in it. Few state that their actions go against their morals and go to the extent of asking the church for forgiveness.

The protagonist Hamlet is constantly expressing his religion. When speaking to Ophelia he yells, “Get thee to a nunnery.” Nunnery is a traditional word, in this period it also meant brothel. He was hinting that she is a whore by telling her to get to a nunnery. Hamlet also mentions “purge his soul” speaking about killing Claudius he wants him to go to hell after he kills him. Also when Hamlet is referring to how he hid the body he says “ Compounded it with dust, whereto ‘tis kin,” he is diverting to the quote from the bible Genesis 3:19 saying he returned the body to its state of origin. Hamlet during the whole play was driven out of rage and religion his rage and fury would tell him one way, but his inner self believing in religion catapulted him into making the right decisions. …show more content…
