It is amazing how our own devices we use to enhance our work is killing us through texting and driving. Not only is it dangerous for you as a driver, but for everyone else around you. Trying to do two things at once often lead to disorder and confusion, so trying to multitask in the car can lead to disaster. Texting and driving is a terrible idea because it can cause serious injury or death. Texting and driving causes 3,280 injuries per year in America alone. Studies show that being on your phone while driving automatically increases your chance of being in an accident by 23%. Even though this statistic has been decreasing over the years, it shows the second you get on your phone, you are likely to endanger yourself on the road. Even though most Americans are aware that texting and driving is unacceptable, they still are active on their phone. Tesla has made their cars with voice control and a central screen to avoid being distracted. Having a voice assistant makes it incredibly easier to text or call someone while keeping your eyes on the road. More companies have also begun to create a reliable voice assistant to expand this option to everyone. A company called Groove has created a device that disables your phone only while driving via Cloud, or network connection between devices. Putting this small device under your wheel forces you to not be on your phone, which can be turned off, can save lives and impact your focus on the road. Even though technology seems to have the answer, there are also simple solutions. Keeping your phone out of reach or installing apps can prevent you from having the urge to check your phone.
