RELIGIOUS PLACES IN SURAT
India is a country which believes in the principle of unity in diversity. India houses many religions, cultures, traditions and customs. Some of the religions practiced in India are Hinduism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Sikhism and Jainism. Surat is the second largest city in the State of Gujarat which houses many of the sacred religious places. Some of the religious places at Surat are listed below:
1. Agam Mandir
2. Ambika Niketan Temple
3. Ambaji Temple
4. Khwaja Didar Dargah
5. Chantamani Jain Temple
6. ISKCON Temple
7. Parsi Agiari
8. Mughalsarai
9. Nav Said Masjid
10. Jama Masjid
11. Bhimnath mahadev Temple
12. Shree Kal Bhairavnath Mahadev Temple
A Bird-eye view of the religious places in Surat is as below:
1. Shree Agam Mandir: Agam Mandir is located in the gopipura village of Surat. The Temple is dedicated to Lord mahavir and also includes the idols of Shri Adeshwar Bhagwan and Shri Parshwanath Bhagwan. The walls of the temple are inscripted with the copper sheets comprising of Dharm Agams.
2. Ambika Niketan Temple: The temple is dedicated to Mother Goddess Ashtabhuja Ambika. The said temple is built during the year 1969 on the banks of River Tapti and Navrathri Celebrations for the goddess is considered to be the most auspicious occasion in this temple.
Further,the temple also has shrines of Lord Ram- Sita, Lakshmi Narayan and Lord Shiva
3. Ambaji Temple: Ambaji temple is considered to be the major Shakthi peeth of India.The temple is situated at a distance of 185 kilometres from Ahmedabad. The sacred “ Shree Visa Yantra” is worshipped as the main deity of the temple instead of idol worship. 11. Bhimnath mahadev Temple: This temple is located at a distance of 130 kilometres from Ahmedabad. Bhimnath Mahadev Temple is a five thousand years old temple and the temple relates to Pandavas of Mahabhrath era. Till date, the temple is visited by many tourists as a place of historical importance.
12. Shree Kal Bhairavnath Mahadev Temple: One of the sacred Hindu temples at Surat is Shri Kal BhairavNath Mahadev Temple which is dedicated to Lord Bhairavnath. The temple is located at Kamrej area of surat.
Surat also houses many other religious places like Vir Narmad Saraswati Mandir, Tulsiwadi Karna Temple, Steneshwar Mahadev Temple, Khodiyar mata katargam and so on.
The above list is only an illustrative list of religious places in Surat. Yet Surat stands as a symbol of India’s Principle of “Unity in Diversity” by housing many religious places.
