Structural functionalist is one of the sociological paradigms that attempt to discuss the discrimination of workers in the workplace. The paradigm mostly concentrates on various behaviors that are exhibited in the workplace and of which may seem uncontrollable simply because they are already formed or they are imported from outside the workplace. In addition, the paradigm is also concerned with the societal or bias conscious and the exogenous forces that tends to connect the existing employer's structures to address the rhetoric that employers should not ever be held responsible for the discrimination that exists in the society.

In addition, the political, social and economic factors are also affected by the behavior exhibited by the employer in the workplace. More attention should be placed on the exogenous forces that have been found to take place within a good number of organizations. According to Minott (2016), to understand how discrimination works in the workplace today, it is necessary to evaluate the relationship between the structures that are present in the organization and the outside forces. This is true because some of the behaviors that may seem gender-neutral and treated in isolation may end up producing gender bias when combined with broader exclusionary patterns. It is also worth to note that any aspect of gender bias may vary depending on the organizational culture and the context in which it occurs. What is experienced in the end is that the perceptions of various participants in the workplace are shaped differently. However, functionalist perspective has put it clear that it is difficult to draw a line between albeit professional, discriminatory and lawful harassment and destructive behavior in the workplace (Hoogervorst, 2017). For that reason, what structural functionalist questions are that whether the existing exogenous forces are truly exogenous raising some caution that the employers are doing something constructive to either magnify or solidify the workplace
