If I were Sergeant Major of the Army, I would use my time in that position to better the United States Army is every possible way. The Army as we see it today is constantly trying to stay ahead of the power curve when adjusting to change to meet the realism of society as it currently stands and indoctrinating new troops to increase the fighting force for the Army of the future. When I last wrote a paper based on this same premise, the Army was drawing down like in manner not seen since the end of the Vietnam era. The Army military as a whole was once again trying to transition its self from both the Iraqi and Afghan wars to preparing for the a potential WWIII with Russia. All over the Army there are certain installations that unevenly have certain quarters and standards of living for different troops. We serve in the same Army so conditions should be equal and improved across the board. I believe this improvement would give a much-needed boost to retention and aid in enlistment. Next, if I were Sergeant Major of the Army I would look to improve the Army’s height and weight standards outlined in AR 600-9. Too often these standards are not upheld and service members are able to parade around wearing what I believe to be the best uniform in all of the United States military and make are branch look like we are standard less. Like we have no standard for what a service member should look like in his or her uniform. I think adjustments to the height and weight standards and enforcement of those improved standards would remove those from service who do not take the uniform they wear serious and could careless to meet the Army standard. Lastly, I believe the Army should incentivize army tuition assistance giving soldiers the opportunity to take more classes when they
