Self-efficacy is an important concept in Psychology. It has attracted wide attention since it was introduced. It is a subjective assessment of one's abilities. This subjective assessment will influence individual's motivation and then influence work performance to some extent. Generally, self-efficacy can be promoted and developed. And it can produce positive effect on individual's work performance. This paper will review the relevant theories of self-efficacy and the correlation between self-efficacy and individual work performance. Self-efficacy is also called social cognitive theory or social learning theory. It refers to a belief that the individual is able to complete the challenge. The higher the level of self-efficacy, the more confident the individual is in completing the task (Robbins, & Judge, 2016). Self-efficacy, on the other hand, reflects an expectation of an individual's ability, motivation, behaviour and future results in the face of a challenge (Bandura, 1997). There are three factors that affect this process, including declarative knowledge, procedural knowledge, and motivation. Declarative knowledge is about facts and information, including working tasks, requirements, goals, and principles. Procedural knowledge is a combination of knowing what to do and how to do, which is equivalent to the competency in the field of human resource management. Motivation refers to individual choice and expectation, including It involves choosing whether to work hard, choosing the degree of effort, and choosing whether to make sustained efforts (Aguinis, 2009).
