Imagine being alone, locked in your home for years. People can look in, they can see everything you do, but you have no socialization. The only thing you are able to do day in and day out is walk around and around. Would this affect your mental state? Well, it is affecting some of the killer whales and dolphins that are living in captivity. This is one explanation for why they are attacking their trainers. There are hundreds of aquariums around the world, which have killer whale and dolphins’ shows. These shows attract millions of people on a daily basis. An example of this is Sea World’s Shamu Killer Whale shows.

Nobody ever considers what their lives are like when watching them performing their various tricks in a show. Do you honestly believe that a dolphin or an orca do these things naturally? Tricks like jumping through rings, tail walking, coming out of the water and laying on the side of the pool, waking. These are all unnatural acts for these animals. In captivity, tricks equal food. In the wild, Dolphins spend half of their time hunting for food and the other half playing and interacting with each other. Orcas are much larger animals, so they spend most of their time hunting for food. Both animals hunt in family pods. In the wild, these animals live in very tight family units with strong bonds. These family bonds often last for years. The sea to dolphins and orcas is like air to birds---a three dimensional environment, where they can move in all directions.
