Protecting the Right for Women to Choose
Abortion is considered to be one of the most highly controversial issue in today’s society. As defined by the 2013 Merriam-Webster’s Medical Dictionary, an abortion is, “the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus.” Abortion is purely based on opinion, so there are some who consider themselves as “Pro-Life” and others who consider themselves as “Pro-Choice”. Regardless of which side of the issue you choose, if you do not see how the terms “Pro-Life” and “Pro-Choice” play a large role in United States major elections in today’s society you do not fully understand the major concepts about this subject. Abortion should remain a legal option for women since the government has no right to interfere with a woman’s personal decisions.
Notably, abortion is an important element that represents a women’s right to choose whether or not they would like to continue a pregnancy. This is a fundamental human right that gives them the freedom and privacy to decide for their own bodies and is protected by the United States Constitution in the 14th amendment. The amendment implies that the government has no right to be interfering with a women’s decision to have an abortion during the first trimester, a decision made by the Supreme Court during the Roe v. Wade case. This gives the women the right to make their own decisions, the right to privacy, and helps women achieve full political, social, and economic equality with men.

Yes, overall the decision to have an abortion is extremely personal and varies drastically with the perceptions of individuals. However, women should have the right to decide what to do with their bodies, no one should take that right away from them, not even the government. Although, abortion is purely based on opinion, with people who consider themselves as “Pro-Life” and others who consider themselves as “Pro-Choice”. Abortion should still remain a legal option for women and nobody should interfere with their decision making.
