Paying College Athletes: A Big Mistake College athletes can go to school for free, with many other benefits as well! They make this money by scholarships, tickets to games, general support, and medical help. Many people are debating this question and the topic has picked up heat lately. Fans, athletes and colleges are each debating this question. College Athletes shouldn’t be paid because athletes already bring in enough money, it's expensive for the college, and they have other benefits. College athletes do not need the money. Jared Walch and Blake Marshall say “College athletes tend to bring in a lot of money, and tend to view it as an excess.” (Walch, Jared, Marshall, Blake, and The Daily Utah Chronicle). This means that college students still have enough money to live. This is because many college athletes have other jobs, or family to help them out with monetary issues. College athletes don’t need the money. Those who make it into the NBA will make a staggering amount of money. ESPN, a trusted sports organization says that Lebron James makes $30,963,450 per year!
