Now that we have a script, and we'll cut out the process of submitting it to movie studios, the next step would be pre-production. For this purpose, we'll use a fictional studio and call it L 0 L studios. This studio, after accepting the script, would hire a producer. Let's use a name here, like Richard Donner. His job is to hire a director, audition a cast, find a location to film, or decide if it can be done on a sound stage (possibly both), and try to keep it all under budget. Our director would be James Cameron, because with his success recently, his name alone would bring people to see this movie, which is the whole goal of the project. Casting is difficult, because certain factors have to be looked at, such as looks, (do they look the part?

Stanley Kubrick was born July 26, 1928 in Bronx, New York. As a young boy, he enjoyed photography which sparked his love for filming. His father, Dr. Kubrick, had inspired young Kubrick to use his Graflex Camera to take pictures of anything he desired to keep memories of. This was later transformed as young Kubrick’s hobby. Growing up into his teenage years, Kubrick had gone to the movie theater almost more than attending high school. He would watch movies over and over and still be amused by the film even if it was not a good film. With this critical view of the films he was watching, he began to think that he could make a better film compared to what he was watching. Eventually, with the compassion for photography the Kubrick had, he had sold one of his pictures to Look magazine. Look magazine hired him as a freelance photographer and with the money he saved up, Kubrick...

THX 1138, American Graffiti, Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back…the list goes on and on. Although many have not heard of each of these films, everyone certainly has to know the man behind them. George Lucas has, in many cases, written, produced, and directed, not to mention edit, his own films. His vision was the driving force that imagined and created these movies. All have made back the cost of the film and most have received millions of dollars in profit.
Throughout history, the film industry has seen many directing styles and techniques. The early part of the 20th century saw a factory style of film production, but as the years went by, director's began to employ new and untried techniques in their pictures. One such technique which these director's implemented was a new approach to the use of the camera and camera angles. "Casablanca," an Academy Award winning film of 1942 saw director Michael Curtiz manipulate the camera in ways others had not. He uses the close-up, point-of- view, and creative shot motivation methods in his film starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, to create an American cinema classic.
Spielberg was born in Cincinnati on December 18th, 1946. His father was an electrical engineer, and his mother a concert pianist. Steven seemed to get the best elements from both of them. Ironically, Steven was unable to get into a film school, so he settled for majoring in English Literature at California State University. After graduation, he set out to Hollywood, where he was determined to be successful. In 1974, he received his first break for The Sugarland Express. The film went on to win a Cannes Film Festival Award for best screenplay. The following year saw JAWS explode. This very successful horror film, depicting a man-eating shark, captured the attention of the world and has become part of contemporary pop culture. The movie was nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars and won several Oscars for technical categories and for its very distinctive score.

The techniques he used to make his films so great such as the wide shot, close up, and quick cut are still key components of modern films. It is Griffith's legacy that makes him " “single most important individual in the development of film as an art” (Drew).
