Preconceived notions are opinions formed beforehand without proper evidence. When it comes to social inequality many people have preconceived notions of what inequality is like today. Society has assumptions that inequality is a small scale, and the wealth is evened out in a proper way, however that is not the case. Inequality between classes keeps getting larger and larger creating more problems for majority of society and leaving questions on how to inform more of society on this growing problem of inequality and how to fix it. Social inequality can be hard to notice and can stem from many different forms of inequality. Income inequality is a main factor in social inequality. According to Dan Ariely, people think income inequality is disputed somewhat fairly between classes, however it is actually significantly unfair. It Is unfair because the richest 1% own 35.4% of the wealth (Ward & Himes, 2014Soceity believes this because of their preconceived notions of what is right and wrong, which would be why society doesn’t realize how large the income inequality gap actually is. Another good predictor for where someone stands in the social class spectrum is his or her wealth. Wealth income might seem life the same thing, however wealth is the amount of all your assets, while income is the amount of money you make annually. Wealth is just as important as income because if predicts the access in ones life to necessities and luxuries (Skopek, Bluchholz, & Blossfeld, 2014).
