In the United States every state is granted the right to govern itself without inference, with the exception being that it must adhere to the rules of the United States Constitution. Each state is entitled to create their own constitution that they deem appropriate for governance. Firstly, we will delve into the history of Hawaii before it was a state. Next, we will examine the demographics of the state. Then, we will examine the organization of the state government of Hawaii as well as the role of the governor. Finally, we will conclude with the specific controversies that the state of Hawaii faces. In this essay we will explore the state government of Hawaii and the controversies that happen in the state. The government of Hawaii is divided into three different sections, the judicial branch, the legislative branch, and the executive branch. The judicial branch of Hawaii is split into seven sections, with the supreme court of Hawaii being the head of the judicial branch of the state (Hawaii State Judiciary, 2018). The legislative branch of Hawaii is divided into a house and a senate. The house of representatives is made up 51 representatives and 25 senators from different regions in Hawaii (Hawaii State Legislature, 2009). Finally, the executive branch is like the federal executive branch, but instead of a president being the commander in chief it is a governor. In Hawaii the governor is tasked with appointing officials to the different departments of government, these officials share the same term time as the governor (The Government of Hawaii, 2014).
