Harriet Tubman “Abolitionist and escaped slave”
Harriet Tubman is an inspiration to many for her bravery and courage. She was a very important abolitionist who made a huge impact on the rights for freedom with the help of Quakers and other abolitionists on the Underground Railroad. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the life of Harriet Tubman.
First of all, Harriet Tubman’s early childhood years. Harriet Tubman’s actual name was Araminta Ross she changed it in honor of her mother, and she was born in Dorchester County, Maryland in March 1820 (Harriet Tubman). She was born into a slave family and was the fifth of nine children, four boys and five girls, there were also her parents Ben and Harriet Greene Ross (Harriet Tubman). When Harriet was two the right about freedom increased, because of the silent talks her father had along with other slaves (Petry). At the age of seven Harriet worked as a nurse and did house work ("Harriet Tubman."). Harriet then suffered seizures, headaches, and vivid dream experiences after she was hit with a metal weight when she refused to listen to her master (wikipedia.org). She didn’t have a regular education like most people she just absorbed her education through everyday life (Petry).

Later, her adulthood years that lead up to her fame. She escaped and ran away to avoid being sold and left her parents, siblings and first husband John Tubman, a free slave who was to afraid to follow behind ("Harriet Tubman."). Nicknamed “Moses of her people”, and being the most famous conductor of the Underground Railroad (Harriet Tubman). She served as a scout and a nurse for the Union Forces and spied on Confederate territory for Colonel James...

Every March 10th, her day of death, Harriet Tubman is honored (newworldencyclopedia). There was also a ship named after her and it served in the United States Merchant Marines until 1972 (newworldencyclopedia). “She inspires generations of Americans struggling for Civil Rights with her bravery and bold action.” (Harriet Tubman).
In conclusion, despite the unfair, unequal and cruel life she lived, she will forever remain a big part in U.S history. Most of her life was dedicated to help others gain the freedom they so desperately needed by sacrificing her life by leading slaves to freedom without getting caught. She was a hero to many slaves and an inspiration to many African Americans. Harriet was determined to not let anything get in her way of freedom.
