There was a time when Hamlet knew only love for his mother Gertrude, as most sons do, but in this scene we see that Hamlet has grown to feel only hatred and contempt for his mother. Gertrude becomes frightened of Hamlet’s tirade and believes he has truly lost his mind. After Hamlet learns that he had killed Polonius instead of Claudius, he confronts his mother, yelling at her and scorning her for her decision to remarry to Claudius. Hamlet is obviously vehemently angry with his mother. He is particularly furious about his mother’s choice to remarry to Claudius.
