What Are the Different Types of Gemstones?

Category of Gemstones - There is various different types of gemstones, and well-informed the different categories can help a collector or enthusiast expand his repertory vastly. Some precious gemstones are so special in chemical composition and transparent structure that they fall into their own category, although others can be collectively lumped into one. Here are the principal types of the precious and semi-precious gemstones:
Diamond - diamond is its own kind of gemstone, and is quite known for being the hardest naturally occurring. Diamonds are largely high-carbon crystals that were fused under maximum of pressure and temperature. Diamonds themselves are not specifically rare, with thousands being mined all over the world every year; though, huge diamonds of high quality are extremely scarce, and it is these which are well known for feature the standards of diamond as the world's most precious gemstone.
Corundum - this is the second hardest kind of gemstone, and is largely defined as being quiet of aluminum oxide and many trace minerals. The trail minerals create various types of corundum, and likely the two most well-known examples of this kind of stone are sapphires and rubies. Rugged corundum is not used as are gemstones, but is used as an industrial solidity abrasive element due to its hard nature.
Chrysoberyl - this is the third hardest kind of gemstone, and although it uses aluminum oxide as a foundation element as corundum’s, it has high volume of beryllium mixed in with it. Appearance brilliant, chrysoberyls frequently come in a yellow to green shade, though their lineament is best known for having the tendency to actually change color rather under different kind of lighting...
