What is the best way to prevent DUI and deaths due to drunk driving? Drinking and driving is one of the most unfortunate realities that exist in our world today. It causes many tragic injuries to a number of people on our roadways every day. DUI causes people to lose their lives or serious bodily injury to everyone who crosses the barriers to drink and drive. Even the little children get hurt or killed if someone decides to drink alcohol and driving, for these little ones it doesn’t give them a chance at life. Their little lives are cut short at the hand of a person who misjudge their ability to operate a vehicle. While most of law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to send a message to people young and old about drinking and driving, they use slogans like: “Friends Don’t Let Friends Drive Drunk” and “Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among teens in America, and almost half of teens killed in crashes are the drivers themselves. One of the goals with these campaigns is to raise awareness among teenagers that drinking and driving is one of the worst mistakes they can ever make, with deadly consequences that can’t be undone. Laws have been placed worldwide to send a message about this terrible epidemic. These preventive measures include the taking away of one’s driving privilege, placing the person in jail, and doing community service work. Still offenders take part only in what law enforcement agencies have implied on them, taking no other measures to get help. Alcohol affects you in a way that changes your judgement, depth perception as well as vital motor skills required to drive safely. It’s easy to think you are driving normally when truly you are not. Given this matter careful consideration I think if someone causes death or serious bodily harm to another family due to a DUI, then it should be a law that allows the grieving families to meet monthly with the accuser. This families should have the right to meet the accused with any unanswered questions. They may have questions about why did he or she make this decision to operate a vehicle under the influence. This could be an alternative to just placing the accusers in jail for a DUI. This kind of punishment would allow the accuser to feel the pain of the family they have inflicted this grief upon. They will have firsthand experience to the pain a family in imposed with by missing their loved ones. With so many families hurting because of not having the opportunity to see their children whom was taken because of a drunk driver, she would have the time to sit and discuss her void and pain to the accused. Implementing this law would allow all accusers to see the other side to making a decision to first drink and then drive. Can you imagine a world who don’t allow drunk driving, ten thousand fewer families would get a call or visit from law enforcement letting them know their loved one isn’t coming
