In the United States there are many types of people that are discriminated against, one of the types of people are people in the LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer) community. There are quite a few people that are very much against the people that do claim a non hetero sexualuality. Some of these people say and do things to both harm LGBTQ people physically and mentally. There are also people who do not do these things, they are supportive and in some cases they do not care in the slightest. Nonetheless there are still LGBTQ people being discriminated against and discrimination is not okay. Throughout the world inside the LGBTQ community there are terms that some people do not understand. Most people do not know the difference between the two term sex and gender. Sex is the physical parts of your body. While gender “describes the characteristics that a society or culture delineates as masculine or feminine. In sociological terms 'gender role' refers to the characteristics and behaviours that different cultures attribute to the sexes. What it means to be a 'real man' in any culture requires male sex plus what our various cultures define as masculine characteristics and behaviours, likewise a 'real woman' needs female sex and feminine characteristics”(Ann-Maree Nobelius). Whether the discrimination is in everyday life or in the workplace. In the workplace people in the LGBTQ community make an average .32 cents less than a heterosexual person. Almost fifty percent of bisexuals in the workplace keep their sexuaality a secret to their bosses and their coworkers. Men are also less likely to share with others that they are not heterosexual due to the pride that comes along with being a ‘real man’ in this country.
