Dependability...Trust...Virtue. These are three qualities that should come to mind when determining a valuable, true friendship. Although in today 's society, it has become a challenge to even understand who and what a friend is rather than a true friend. Back-stabbing, lies, and just in general drama seems to fit most people 's definition of friendship. So what would today 's society know about being a true friend? Yes, people have in mind a variety of ideas on what characteristics make up a true friend,but majority of their word choices are too broad. Characteristics such as friendly, fun, or hilarious applies to just about anyone. It takes more than being a nice, outgoing, or funny individual to be considered a true friend. Whether someone is in need of advice, a favor, or just someone to talk to, a dependable friend would be first to volunteer a listening ear or a lending hand. A true friend is just as dependable as a sidekick is to a superhero. Whether its Batman and Robin or Mermaid Man and Barnacle boy, they could depend on one another even when not battling villains, for they know they have a sincere friendship. Having a dependable friend makes a friendship feel genuine. It builds into the feeling of appreciation knowing that someone actually cares, and a dependable person not only shows that through their words, but more so through their actions. Virtue is the very factor that holds a friendship together. It is the foundation that holds the house, or friendship, in place through day and night, rain or shine. Individuals who respect, honor, and cherish one another no matter what obstacles life brings are the people who tend to find themselves in a legitimate friendship, for they are true friends. They are the ones that are happiest when they witness good happening for their friend.
