Entering my first year of college I didn’t have any idea of what I wanted to do. I still didn’t choose a major let alone a career. I was stuck in between wanting to make enough money that my family would be taken care of financially and choosing a career that I wouldn’t mind going in to work every day. The one thing that I was certain of was that I wanted to be able to help people in whatever I chose to do. After careful consideration and exploring the options available to me, I have come to the conclusion that I want to have a career in physical therapy. Educational requirements, opportunities and general demands of the career are only a few of the areas to inquire about in the field of physical therapy. This career is diverse in nature, in that a therapist sees many different ailments ranging from a sprained ankle to rehabilitating someone who has had an amputation. There is a fair degree of difficulty involved in becoming a physical therapist, and due to the high competition involved in entering the various Master’s degree programs as stated earlier, high grades and a positive attitude are very important for success in an interested student’s career. Volunteering is a great way to find out if a person would or would not be interested in entering the practice of physical therapy. This is an exciting career with many opportunities for advancement. This career is also a nice choice for those who become bored with the tedious monotony of a daily routine, since each day is a new experience.

While on tour, I developed friendships and bonds with dancers strengthened by a mutual love for dance, a commonality over the pain our bodies endured daily, and conversations on bruised and broken toes.
My path to becoming a physical therapist starts with a bachelor's degree. This program will cover a lot of science topics, such as anatomy and pharmacology. In a Doctorate degree program, I will get to work in clinical situations, participate in internships and gain the necessary skills needed to become a licensed Physical Therapist. Licensing is done through the state that you wish to work in. If I wish to advance my career and go into teaching or research, I will need to complete a doctoral degree program. Regardless of whether I complete a doctoral program, I will be required to take continuing

Dancing doctor: This was my response when I was first asked what I wanted to be when I grew up. My high school life can only be described as a precisely-choreographed “pas de deux”, a ballet term for a “dance for two”, between my passions of ballet and medicine. I used to think of the arts and sciences as almost polar opposites, but as I gained more experience in them, I realized that ballet could be considered an exact science similar to how medicine could be considered an art, and that they were actually quite similar. Most dancers believe that dance not only allows them to express themselves, boost their confidence, and improve their mindfulness; but also stay in shape and work through their pain. Dance movement therapy uses movement to connect the mind and body, allowing for improvement in physical, emotional, and mental awareness. Dance movement therapy is utilized in a wide variety of therapeutic divisions.

The significance of these traditional dances was to reinforce and celebrate cultural law and practices including the celebration of the passage from child to adulthood or spiritual worship.
