Nothing ventured, nothing gained; It’s what you make of it. If you set your mind to it, nothing is impossible. Are these just mottos and cliches? Or are they words of wisdom we can all use to reach our goals and utmost potential? The truth of the matter is with motivation, determination, and a strong willingness for success, you can achieve anything you put your mind to.

Motivation provides the incentive for people to conquer goals, maintain responsibilities, and solve problems. To me, motivation is generally what energizes, manages, and controls your behaviour. This can be created or re-sparked by looking at one's goals, assessing the stakes of achieving those goals, and creating milestones and personal rewards for gaining progress. For example, an Olympic athlete attempting to win a medal. Their entire mindset and all of their thoughts lie on the opportunity to win the prize at stake. People who are determined, generally are persistent and demonstrate characteristics of perseverance. A person who is determined overcomes obstacles in their path to success. An example of determination is demonstrated by Christopher McCandless and his journey in the movie “Into The Wild.” McCandless abandoned his civil, successful lifestyle for adventure -- to see the true beauty the world had to offer. His ultimate goal was to travel to the beautiful and remote state of Alaska. He went on a two-year-long journey conquering many hurdles such as paddling down the Colorado River and finding a way to hitch-hike from South Dakota to Fairbanks, Alaska.
