The film Black Girl by the Senegalese author and filmmaker Ousmane Sembène focuses on a girl who tries to become independent, by moving to another country for better working opportunities. However, the protagonist ends up losing her identity as it is slowly brought to her attention that she is nothing but a black girl whose purpose is to tend to the need of upper class white people. The overall film brings attention to the audience by showing them the importance of knowing oneself and limitations. It also focuses on topics such as identity, poverty, loss, etc., thus classifying this movie as Third Cinema. In this paper I will go into further detail of why this movie is considered as such. After the tragic incident Monsieur goes back to Senegal with the mask in hand. He returns it to Diouanne's brother, who then takes the mask and puts it on. As Monsieur goes to meet with Diouanne's mother, the little boy begins to follow the older man around, while wearing the mask. I think this represent the threat of Africa to the colonizers, implying that even though one colony won its independence, it won't stop
