As a child I grew up playing football, and I’ve always had a passion for the game. After playing my final down, I knew that my days with the sport were not over. Football is a sport that molds boys into men. My dream is to become a football coach. My coaches had a very strong impact on my life and helped me evolve into the person I am today. By becoming a football coach I will have the ability to make an impact on my player’s life like my coaches did with mine. My biggest inspiration in becoming a football coach is Lou Holtz. Coach Holtz showed me that just because I am finished playing doesn’t mean that I can’t have a passion for the game. The way he carried himself and the passion he emitted helped me decide that this was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
Becoming a football coach, is like becoming an all-star player. It takes time and effort to perfect the craft. In order to become a football coach I will need to attend a college and receive a bachelor’s degree. “Being a coach requires an entry level education; a bachelor’s degree is recommended (U.S. Department of labor).” In order to become a coach I will need to have graduated from high school and go to college and obtain a degree. I will get my bachelor’s in order to become a health and physical education teacher. “A high school diploma and some sort of college degree are required (Career Cruising).”
After receiving my degree I will need training in order to become a coach. Training to become a coach will be very time consuming. There is no experience needed to become a football coach, because of this I won’t be able to coach high level teams at first. I’ll need to put my time in and work my way to the top. When a scandal at the university occurred Holtz retired at the end of the season and has stayed retired ever since. Lou Holtz ranks second all-time in wins at the University of Notre Dame and has a statue erected in his honor at the campus. His final record was 249-132. Since retiring Holtz has been inducted into the college football hall of fame. He is now an analyst for ESPN. Coach Holtz had a tremendous impact on the college football world and has helped shape it into what it is today.
Coaching is something I have grown a passion for, it might not be the most glamorous job in the world but its appeal to me has me hooked. I’m ready to take on the challenges of building up a program based of the core values I deem necessary to help my players become better people.
