Australia’s National Identity

A National identity is a sense of belonging to a nation or a state. The sense of a nation is a cohesive whole, which is represented by the culture, the language, traditions and the politics. A national Identity may have a subjective feeling that one person shares with a group of people about a nation. National Identity is seen is psychological terms as an awareness of difference.

I personally think the things that make up the Australia’s National Identity are mostly the food, the celebrations, and the culture. Hopefully, there can be no doubt that Australia is a richly culturally diverse nation, and that a major contribution to this has been the encouragement by successive governments over the past half-century to newcomers to Australia to participate fully in the life of their new nation, respecting the values and the institutions of their new nation

The song I have chosen is “Still call Australia home – Peter Allen”. This songs lyrics show Australians national identity in the way it's saying how you can go everywhere but you will always come back to Australia because it's your home, it's pretty much saying you can go everywhere but you will always call Australia home no matter what.

The meaning behind the Australian flag that is Under neither the union jack, is a white commonwealth star. The star has seven points which represent the six states and the territories of the Commonwealth of Australia. This star is also on the coat of arms. The meaning of the coat of arms is that the shield represents the six states. The emu and kangaroo are supporting the shield. The Australian floral emblem, the golden wattle frames the Commonwealth Coat of Arms. And a scroll which contains the word “Australia”.
