In recent history there was a day when everyone remembers where they were, what they were doing and who they were with. On September 11, 2001, 19 militants associated with the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda hijacked 4 planes. Two of the planes crashed into both world trade center buildings, resulting in a large amount of destruction and death. The event is known as 9/11 and is one of the most memorable days in history. “Close to 3,000 people died in the World Trade Center and its vicinity, including a staggering 343 firefighters and paramedics, 23 New York City police officers and 37 Port Authority police officers”(history staff).

President Bush released new requirements for airports in November of 2001, after 9/11 occurred. President Bush rushed the new requirements for airport security due to the upcoming holiday seasons, which are the most popular time of the year to travel. Ticketed passengers now have to go through security, and new technology and procedures were given to airports to scan for weapons and destructive items, also there were new procedures added including removing shoes and banning liquids. Many changes occurred in security issue after 9/11 took place fo example airport security, the safety of the passengers and the pilots was expanded, "Due to 9/11 pilots can now apply to become a federal flight deck officer, which allows them to carry a loaded gun and act as a federal officer aboard the plane."(9/11 to now: Ways we have changed, Jason Villemez) " Along with being having a feudal flight attendant, airports created guidelines on checking luggage.
