In recent years, a growing number of parents are sending their children to study abroad. In 2011, the university of Cambridge had nearly 1,000 Chinese students who studied in undergraduate or postgraduate degrees in engineering, sciences, mathematics, international relation, economics,finance and administration (BBC news, 2011). Parents believe that their children may will become more self-conscious, because their children have to look after themselves and manage their finance (Topuniversities, 2014). However, there are some difficulties, such as foreign language problems, teaching methodologies, exam and social network need to be faced when they study abroad for the first time. This essay will discuss these challenges and then gives suggestions for these problems.

Firstly, international students have to speak a foreign language in their daily lives when they go abroad for study. Although they have obtained the highest test score in their language exams, they are likely to fail in their academic progress. For examples, in English speaking countries, the IELTS has been considered to as one of the entrance standards of the UK universities. Another difference is that in Western education, teachers usually provide a list of reference books or articles related to classes to help students preview what they will learn. In comparison, Asian teachers rarely impart students’ academic materials to prepare their lessons (Samuelowicz 1987). It is indicated that students are unusual to be afforded some extracurricular materials from the school or teachers, which may encourage them to understand that what they have learnt
