The Day of the Dead, what does that make you think of? Thinking about it others think of it as a scary holiday because it has the word “Dead” but really it’s all about remembering loved ones. This type of holiday is popular in the country of Mexico. And it’s celebrated on November 1st and 2nd of each year. Dia de los Muertos which means the Day of the Dead. Dia de los Muertos is celebrated in some parts of Europe. Celebrating the day of the Dead has a long history in Mexican Tradition. The Day of the Dead is a time of celebration and remembrance of loved ones who have passed away or have died. It’s like Memorial Day in the United States but it has a different purpose. Dia de los Muertos is a holiday where many gather to recognize their deceased relatives or friends. Dia de los is a well-known Mexican holiday that honors both the dead and the living. In Mexico friends and families assemble at their local cemeteries to share and enjoy food, music, and fun. It may seem disturbing or abnormal that the people of Mexico react to death with mourning along with happiness and joy, but that is their culture and that’s there way of honoring there loved ones. Although they look at death with the same fear as everyone else, they reflect their fear by mocking and living alongside death. In Mexico there is tradition to visit your passed loved ones gravesites. Unlike the United States where graveyards are privately owned and maintained, graveyards in Mexico are often publicly owned and taken cared of by the local churches. The families have the responsibility is to maintain graves and keep them in good condition. The Chinese also celebrate their dead loved ones as well but in a similar manner. The Spaniards wanted to eliminate this holiday by moving it to the date of All Saints and All Souls Day in November. They failed so the Aztec’s along with the Mexicans continue to celebrate this holiday. Overall Dia de los Muertos is a wonderful holiday that is celebrated to honor their family and friends that passed away. Dia de los Muertos is a day where many gather to recognized their deceased loved ones. To recognize them they hold get together. Dia de los Muertos is celebrated on November 1st and the 2nd of every year. In he two-day’s of November they prepare a feast that the loved one loved and also decorate and clean where the deceased one was buried at. Now you all know this is a type of tradition that Mexico celebrates. Don’t think of it as a bad thing but more of a good thing.
