The Endangered Species Act of 1973

Our world is very unique. We share the world with all sorts of creatures from animals of all sizes, and shapes. Creatures that crawl, slide, run, swim, fly, or burrow. As scientists expand their knowledge about the world they unmask many types of species living on this planet. Scientist has discovered about 1.7 million species, and 13,000 more species are being found every year. It is very rare to know that there are many unknown animals, such as large birds or even mammals, but there could be million little creatures wanting to be discovered such as insects, spiders, shellfish, and even worms. It prohibits everyone including a private person and federal agency from “taking” endangered wildlife or harming any listed species. This section makes it unlawful to import or export any species to or from the United States. It prohibits possession, sell, deliver, carry or transports any listed animals near the United States. Consequences may take place if a person violates any instruction pertaining to endangered species or to any plant considered to be threatened. Permits may be issued if the “taking” of an endangered species is happening for a good reason. Permits may be used for scientific reasons, for the recovery or protection of the endangered species, or for any incidental to carry out an out lawful activity (Albrech 2008). The endangered species act is a very powerful law. It has saved many species and it’s still protecting the endangered habitat of various animals. Even though the law regulates rules, there are many people that disobey the law and make it hard for endangered species to continue their life without interruptions.
