Many of us imagine how amazing life will be living happily ever after,’-however, for many, love can be extremely dangerous. Many relationships deal with abuse such as physical violence, sexual abuse, verbal assault and manipulation. It is important to protect those who may be victims of domestic violence, and to understand, and support them. Domestic Violence can happen to anyone, regardless of gender, race or sexual orientation. The Justice System is not effective in supporting victims of Domestic violence. The law currently only provides support to victims after they have endured abuse. The Intervention Order Act will provide support for victims to escape abuse before experiencing conflict. This act helps victims of domestic violence apply for an order called the Emergency Intervention Order. Krystal Leblanc tells CBC radio-Canada that victims will be able to receive temporary conditions like “Temporary exclusive occupation of the residence”(2018)“provision to stop the abuser from confining utilities, as they use it as a defence mechanism to be in power towards the victims” (2018) “Temporary possession exclusive of personal property”(2018) also removing any weapons, temporary custody of the children and “removal of property in the presence of police officers”(2018) which allows victims to collect their belongings safety. Victims are able to apply and receive an answer in twenty-four hours by talking to social workers, police officers and other key people who are trained for this process. This will be a good change for victims as it provides an extra tool for the victims which allows them custody of the children because many victims find that a barrier to leave the relationship. It also helps with employment and shelter, It contributes into allowing victims to believe it’s a right time to leave. This process for this act is completely confidential, so family members and abusers will not obtain access. This act should have been proclaimed years ago, so victims can feel like the government is listening to them.
