What happens when power lines fall during bad weather or when transformers blow up and there is no power? This is when the job of an electrical lineman is at one of his most crucial points. In order to be a successful lineman a person must understand the education and training, work environment and duties, and the job outlook. The importance of selecting a lifelong career, makes it crucial for a person to conduct research about his field of interest, and, in this case, that would be the career of an electrical lineman.
When choosing a life long career understanding the education and training plays a big factor, According to the U.S Bureau of Labor statistics, “Most companies require line installers and repairers to have a high school

According to the U.S Bureau of Labor statistics, liman typically “install, maintain, or repair the power lines that move electricity identify defective devices, voltage regulators, transformers, and switches inspect and test power lines and auxiliary equipment string power lines between poles, towers, and buildings climb poles and transmission towers and use truck mounted buckets to get to equipment operate power equipment when installing and repairing poles, towers”. Lineman have a lot of duties they can fulfill on the job in different situations. According to Tennessee Valley Authority, “the current pay of a lineman is as follows: apprentice 1st period A: $42,410, 1st period B: $44,645, apprentice 2nd period: $49,105, apprentice 3rd period: $55,060, apprentice 4th period: $63,245, Lineman: $74,405”. The more jobs a lineman is qualified to do typically his pay will go up. Pay can go up and down on the amount of hours a lineman works once he exceeds to overtime pay he will get payed time in an half pay after his shift is over and he does not get at least 8 hours of off time he will get paid double time and will continue to be paid double time until he gets his full eight hours of off time (Hale). All hours and pay scales will be different for each lineman within which company he works for. As it can be seen in this essay a career of a lineman is a very beneficial job because not only the
Vocational and technical schools offer these people a second chance at finding the career that they will love. According to fifty-year-old Jeff Martinelli, “For a guy like me, with no college, it’s become pretty bleak out there” (qtd. by Egan 106). Martinelli spent most of his life operating heavy machinery at Kaiser Aluminum until it shut down a few years ago. He started working there right out of high school and didn’t pursue any further education. Now, he has no certification and no degree. It is nearly impossible to find a good job without either a degree or certification. Vocational schools offer people like Martinelli a second chance. He can take just one year and do a program at a technical school to get a certificate. With that certificate, he will be able to provide for his family again. At a technical school, they don’t just have young people straight out of high school. According to Fox Business, interest in vocational schools spans high school students, 4-year school graduates, and people who want to improve their skills or switch careers. That means that everyone has a chance to get the job that they are passionate about, no matter what their previous
The Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters main goal was to help gain equal opportunities for African Americans in the workplace as well as in American society (Tuttle). They wanted to achieve higher wages, shorter working hours, self-determination, fairness, and dignity for African Americans (Morales). According to Morales, a porter would receive $25.00 for more than 80 hours of work, which was low, even for the early 1920s. Porters had to work over 400 in a month or for 11,000 miles, depending on which ever came first to receive any overtime pay. Asa Philip Randolph was approached by Ashley Totten, a union organizer and veteran Pullman porter, and was asked to lead the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters. Randolph reluctantly agreed (Morales).
A circuit clerk is a sectary to the court. They keep up with all the marriage files that every been made in the county. Even when the person is dead they keep their name locked in, in the system. Maintaining the rrecords of the court and what not is a big responsibility. You have to be trust worthy and even smart to hold this spot. They circuit clerk is like a secatary of the schoo; they monitor everything that goes on. When a juvenile goes to court, he or she puts that in the book. Registering people to vote me a big part of being a secretary. They either have to pull up files of people that already registered or make sure they register them. Lost files in the court house gets blamed on the clerk because they hold full responsibly of that certain thing. You have to have the right heart to be a clerk. Either you have the ability to stand up for yourself or know how to rule things.
On August 14th, 2003, a major blackout swept across portions of the northeastern United States and Canada. It was reported that a series of equipment outages in the Midwest led to uncontrolled cascading outages of power transmission lines and generators serving parts of the Northeast, Midwest and Canada. Automatic protective systems operated to open circuits and shut down power plants to prevent further spread of the outages. This is very similar to what happened in The Great Northeast Blackout of 1965. In both situations, the “grid system” shut down one generator in line at a time to protect a surge from the station before it.
Currently, to start a career you will most likely have to have some sort of college degree. That fact is the reason students are attending, and being encouraged to attend college. I know that in my experience, all throughout my K-12 life I was urged to get good grades so I can get into a good college, and then get a well-paying job. College today has transformed into a cycle where there is a set path: good grades, good
Vocational school provides students with career preparation in health care, computer science, education, business, and any number of highly specialized trades. Individuals have the opportunities to gain the knowledge and experience necessary to become electricians, machinists, painters, plumbers. Some programs administer licensing or certification examinations, in such program, allowing students to become eligible for employment immediately after graduation.
High school and college are tremendously vital for preparing people for the real world. High school prepares students for college or the workforce. College expands ones general knowledge and skills, such as the ability to express ones opinion orally and written. Post secondary education also increases the understanding of the community and society. CollegeBoard says that more and more employers want employees who have education beyond high school. College graduates have more jobs to choose from than people with high school diplomas. The United States Census Bureau reports that workers with a college degree earn double the salary of what a person with a high school diploma makes. Education is becoming more critical than ever, and people who want a career should expect to get a college degree. Both high school and college play a crucial role in effective police work; as a result, police officers with an academic background get fewer complaints and less disciplinary action.
Murray emphasizes that our society has placed a false belief on college degrees. In other words, obtaining a degree doesn’t necessarily make someone creditable or qualified. Murray says that vocational training (training for a specific industry or job field) is the better path to go after high school. Crucial skills and experience are more effectively gained in vocational training, and these types of skills are valued more than a college transcript. In the end, college is an option, and the rigorous curriculum and knowledge gained at a four-year college is not for everyone.
Education isn’t a concern when it comes to a successful career, because to have a successful career you need to be a hard working person, talented, and responsible. The amount of education a person has doesn’t determine if you’re going to be successful or not. Many people throughout history have been one of the many most successful people who didn’t receive an education.
Science developed day by day so the technologies in every area. Starting from smartphone to drone, everywhere we can see the unbelievable advancement of science and technology and the same thing also goes for the farm equipment technology. Nowadays we can see a lot of high tech developed agricultural machinery in every part of the world, but there are still many antique tractors out there roaring in the agriculture field, giving the witness of gradual technological development of this tech. You don't have to go any museums to find them as they're literally competing with the modern day tractors. With the blessing of many antique tractors remanufacturing company, these old day yesterdays tractors are finding a new life with the new boost
The second reason to finish high school is for job security. Nowadays, having a high school
The importance of an electrical lineman is huge, not only in the community but also in most of the world. Their education, training, and correct use of equipment help them in their different and dangerous work conditions to accomplish the tasks of providing power to their communities.
The most major downside is that if you get injured, you can not work outside. There would probably be some inside office work to do until you heal; but the outside work is the most desirable to me. Even if I was injured; I could use the break from outside work for a little while. Also this line of work can be physically straining to anyone who has not prepared for the type of work. I do not think the physical strain will affect me much at all. Another con is that once college and lineman school is finished, an apprenticeship is recommended. The duration of apprenticeships can be up to five years. Also, apprenticeships do not offer as much as regular lineman jobs do. Although a job directly out of high school is a very good opportunity to be ahead of the game. Although apprenticeships may be lower paying, it is better than going to college for four years and spending even more money. The nature of the work can also be very dangerous. Working on big telephone poles can be a threat to someone's well being for anyone who is not comfortable with heights. I am very comfortable at heights; which is one thing that helps me prepare for this job. Also electricity is very dangerous and can be life threatening. Although lineman school and college help prepare for things like electricity and heights ("TRAINING." WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA
GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) is more economic; Springer reports that “ GMAW is an economic process because it has higher speeds and higher deposition rates than manual arc welding. There is also no need to constantly change electrodes” ( Page 11). GMAW has a higher speed, which means that you can get the job done faster. It also has high deposition rates which makes the weld look clean and smooth.” This method can be used for a high range of work, but it is not suited for repair work because of it’s weld quality” (Page 4). This process can be used for many variations of work including root welds, joints, T’s, butts, laps, and many more applications. Even though its used for many practices, it is not recommended to use this method for repair work because of the quality of the welds. “ It’s easy to use and it is inexpensive to afford now with 110v machines. But you cannot weld for a long time like a 220v machines would produce. Both have different duty cycles” (Parag. 7). M.I.G is something anyone can learn easily, it’s inexpensive to afford. 110v machines don't bring out the best power to weld, because these machines do not have a good duty cycle. Most people prefer 220v machines because they produce more work, even if they are more expensive. GMAW is the cheapest most reliable process for welding.
Electrical engineering, I believe, is the only field where one’s work becomes the most instrumental part of one’s mundane activity and life, and the output produced stays forever to credit. My perception is that, this field requires a lot of patience, perseverance and management skills in order to be successful. The connection that electrical engineering offered between me and this world is the fact that you can become a person who can impact so many lives. This made me pursue Electrical Engineering. After four years of undergraduate studies in Electrical Engineering, I feel completely satisfied with my decision to choose this branch of engineering as my career option as it has revealed the most pragmatic and down-to-earth approach to tackling
