Electric Guitar
Abstract: Discussed will be the history of the guitar, how it’s made, and how it works, and its effect on society. It can come in all shapes and sizes, all kinds of colors and sounds, but how does an electric guitar work? How does a pickup work? How is it possible that by strumming cords on a guitar you are able to transmit sound to an amplifier? From Van Halen and Metallica to Guns N’ Roses and Aerosmith, the electric guitar has shaped music into what it is today. Without the electric guitar, there is no Rock ‘n’ roll, simple as that. Rock ‘n’ roll led to hip-hop, which has shaped society into what it is today. Without the electric guitar, so many things in our society would be different. The entire reason why the electric

What makes an acoustic guitar different from an electric one? (Both pictured on right.) The main difference in the two instruments is how each guitar is able to make sound. The acoustic guitar is hollow at its base. So, when the string is plucked, the sound vibrates around in the hollow base and makes the music that way. The electric guitar obviously doesn’t have a hollow, and makes its music through electricity. There are three main parts to making an electric guitar work. The pickups, the amplifier, and the metal strings, each one playing a vital role in how a guitar is able to play music so loud, energetically, and …show more content…
The amplifier, as explained as simply as possible, translates the sound made from the electric guitar and makes it louder. If you’ve ever tried playing an electric guitar without it being plugged in to an amplifier, you would know that it doesn’t sound nearly as nice. Without the amplifier, the sound that an electric guitar makes that we all know and love, wouldn’t be possible. You strum the strings, and it would sound similar to just strumming rubber bands. The amplifier is arguably the most essential part in the electric guitar because it gives it the sound that every person recognizes comes from the electric guitar. But how does it

Aptly named the Rock & Roll Generation, the 1950's saw the birth and rise to prominence of rock-n-roll and rockabilly (an early style of rock-n-roll). However, this musical revolution would never have been possible without the invention of the electric guitar by Les Paul in 1952 (1). The solid-body electric guitar produced a distinct sound unlike any other instrument during that time; as a result, it was this unique sound that rock-n-roll music developed its entire foundation upon. Today, Les Paul’s guitar (now owned by the popular guitar company Gibson) remains one of the most famous electric guitars not just in the America, but also in the world, along with the Fender Stratocaster and Telecaster. With the advent of the electric guitar, Carl Perkins was a pioneer in the establishment of rock music, and his particular ...
The history of the Concert Band and Wind Ensemble will be reflected through a timeline of events, including an analysis of significant events, groups, composers, and advancements. When society envisions a Wind Ensemble, talented musicians, grand music halls, and difficult arrangements typically come to mind. However, a modern-day Wind Ensemble includes a variety of musicians, each with positive and negative aspects. In society today, music is greatly appreciated and accepted. It is considered an honor and a privilege to expose our ears to the music.
“When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace,” said legendary American rock guitarist, singer, and songwriter. In the 1960’s Jimi Hendrix, along with many other musical artists, greatly influenced numerous people. His unorthodox method of playing and how well he played the guitar would become his trademark for many years to come. Arguably the greatest instrumentalist in the history of rock music, Hendrix expanded the range and vocabulary of the electric guitar and pioneered explosive possibilities of the instrument. His innovative style of combining fuzz, feedback, and controlled distortion created a new musical form.
Music can be traced back into human history to prehistoric eras. To this day archeologists uncover fragments of ancient instruments as well as tablets with carved lyrics buried alongside prominent leaders and highly influential people. This serves as a testament to the importance and power of music, as well as its influence in society. Over its many years of existence, music’s powerful invocation of feelings has allowed it to evolve and serve many purposes, one being inspiring change. American journalist and author Hunter S. Thompson once said, “Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of fuel. Sentimental people call it inspiration, but what they really mean is fuel.” This fuel is the very things that powers the influence of Rock ‘n’ Roll on American society, that author Glenn C. Altschuler writes about in his book, “All Shook Up – How Rock ‘n’ Roll Changed America.” Between 1945 and 1965 Rock ‘n’ Roll transformed American society and culture by helping to ease racial integration and launch a sexual revolution while most importantly developing an intergenerational identity.
There are several types of instruments that allow you to have a variety of sounds. There is also a wide variety of bass guitars, but the difference between bass guitars and other instruments is that no matter what type of bass you get, there sound really is not going to vary to much. The bass guitar unique sound is what gives a song structure.
The guitar is a typical string instrument, whose physics are similar to many other string instruments. The main parts consist of the body, the neck, the bridge, the tuning pegs, the sound hole, and the strings. An electric guitar lacks the sound hole and instead relies on an amp for amplification. The physics of a guitar involves sound waves, how they are amplified, and how they travel.

As the increasing popularity of the guitar, guitar performance has been developed into a discipline, and is still being carried forward. At the beginning of the 1920s, a musician, a composer and the most important a guitarist, Andrés Segovia, was getting to be known as one of the greatest guitarists and the grandfather of the classical guitar. He spent his whole life learning, exploring and improving the classical guitar. Many people believe that, without his efforts, the charm of the guitar would still be covered, and the instrument would never appear in a concert stage.
The electric guitar has greatly impacted how music was played in the past, the present, or the future. Players can be creative and achieve a great sound from the wide variety of guitars, pickups, pedals, or amps. Whatever type of music you enjoy, everyone should appreciate the importance of the electric guitar.
Guitars are very different instruments than they once were. They have had many changes in shape, sound, style, and how they are made. Starting out as tortoise shells with a stick and some strings, they have now developed into acoustics, spread from Europe to the rest of the world, and turned out to be the crazy shaped, cool designed electric guitars of today.
Eric Clapton is a blues and rock guitarist, songwriter and a singer. His interest in musical instruments started when he was given a guitar as a present for his fifteenth birthday. Even though he faced challenges at the beginning, Eric has risen to be one of the most influential and important guitarists of all time (Johns, pp.20). At the age of 16, his work had been noticed as he played on various occasions alongside his colleague David Brock. When he turned 17, he joined the R&B group, a local band that performed live. Clapton’s success was evident when he came second in the list of Rolling Stone magazine on the top 100 Greatest Guitarists. During the 1960s, Clapton abandoned the Yardbirds and joined the Bluesbreakers and John Mayall. His
