According to the National Center for Education Statistics, during the 2009-10 school year, 19 percent of public schools required students to wear uniforms. Although schools with mandatory school uniforms can receive both approval and criticism, the effects of having school uniforms lead to positive outcomes. Mandatory school uniforms bring positive academic, behavioral, emotional, and financial effects. If students have school uniforms, they will spend less time on appearance and more time on learning. School is not the place where people feel like they have to show off how much money they have or what their social status is; school is the place for learning. After various studies, many schools found that when uniforms were enforced, attendance and test scores increased. Also, uniforms promote identity with the school and the classmates, which articulates the common educational goals. This is the reason why teams in sports wear uniforms (Latham).
