Artificial sweeteners are fake sugar substitutes that many people use to maintain their weight and diabetes. But, what many people do not understand is that some specific artificial sweeteners are not all they are cracked up to be. According to who consume diet coke, which contains aspartame, on a regular basis will be fatter one year from the time they began drinking diet coke. Many artificial sugars are in the everyday items that people eat/drink including soda, chewing gum, energy drinks, granola bars, cereal, and much more. There are many aversive health effects that are associated with specific artificial sweeteners. Some artificial sweeteners such as Sucralose have no known aversive health effects and therefore are the safest option for human consumption. Aspartame on the other hand is extremely dangerous and it can have horrible long term effects on the human body. The sad thing is that most of America has no idea what these artificial sugars really do to your body and how harmful they can be. The most common artificial sweeteners include aspartame, saccharin, sucralose, stevia, neotame, and Acesulfame- K. Although artificial sweeteners are all assumed to be healthy alternatives, it is important for Americans to learn the facts about them this way everyone is safe and confident knowing what they are specifically consuming on a daily basis.
In January 2014, my doctor diagnosed me with Pre-Diabetes. According to WebMd, Pre – Diabetes is when a person’s glucose levels are high but not quite high enough to be diagnosed as Diabetes. ...al sweetener has in comparison with regular table s. As you can see, Neotame has the highest amount of sweetness and it alarms me that it is between 7000 and 13000 times sweeter than your average table sugar. I do not believe that it is very healthy to consume something that is that sweet.
Artificial sweeteners are not all bad for human consumption; in fact Aspartame is linked to the most disturbing health effects compared to the other artificial sweeteners. After doing research on this topic and learning more about artificial sugars, it really opened my eyes to the dangers of Aspartame and it really helped me get on track with developing a healthier lifestyle. Being told at 19 years old that you have Pre-Diabetes is scary and health psychology as well as my diagnosis really got me on the right track to learning about what I am consuming as well as most Americans.
