Statement of Educational Goals and Philosophy
Every student is an individual, with his or her own personality and style. When teaching, I will remember and understand that students are children, not small adults. They will try my patience and understanding, then test the limits of my indulgence.
My approach to teaching leans toward the essentialism. The student is there to learn what they need to know so they can become self-reliant adults. I want to be a teacher who under stands that all students have the capacity to learn. I have children of my own and though they are very different from each other as two children can be, they still love to learn what is being taught. They may learn it in different ways but they still learn and that is the important part.
The nature of knowledge should be both relative and absolute. The core of knowledge is constant, but parts of knowledge is changing since the world is ever changing. Students need to know the constant knowledge of the three R’s with the ever-changing knowledge of the world of technology.
The purpose of education should be to help students become well-rounded adults. Education is important in a child’s life because they have to learn to get along with other children and adults. They learn to follow certain rules, which will carry over into the work environment once they graduate. I will endeavor to instill the students in my class with a life long love of learning as well as a satisfying experience. I hope that I will be helping my students to become a better person by gaining confidence in his or her abilities.

... particular importance in the elementary schools should be the three R’s, reading, writing, and arithmetic. This is not to say that the extra curriculum that is taught is not important because it is, but if students are struggling to read why teach them music when the time could be better spent studying the fundamentals.
When I graduate with my Bachelors degree, I plan to obtain a job, even if it is substituting for full time teachers. After the first year, I would like to take classes to earn my Masters.
I plan to join the American Federation of Teachers, AFT, and the International Reading Association, IRA.
I want to remember throughout my teaching career that students are children, not young adults that already know how to conduct themselves. Students are individuals with their own personalities and no two students are identical.
Education has always been a primary concern for my parents, who taught me that if I need to succeed in life, I have to be educated. Following their guide, I have always valued and tried to get the most of any educational opportunity I have had. Having grown up in a business family, I have always been interested in focusing my career in the business field. My Mother and Father own their own company, and they are constantly talking about business, which has inspired me to follow their path. When my parents retire, they want me to carry on their legacy. For this reason, I have decided to pursue my studies in the field of Business and Leadership at Marylhurst University. I want to pursue a well-rounded education at this established university where I also can have life experiences in the outside world, which will ultimately help me to become a successful leader in our family business.
The reasons we educate our children have changed over time. However, some of the core values remain the same. One of the most important purposes of schooling is the transmission of a culture from one generation to the next. It is important to pass on our culture, values, and beliefs to our children so we continue to have a cohesive population. Schooling offers opportunity to our children by teaching them valuable skills that allow them to be self-sufficient and lead successful lives. Schooling also serves to decrease the social ills those without an education suffer from. A final purpose of education is to create people who are active in civic life.
The learned the terminology, student learning, and how to increase student learning in the classroom. I have learned what my true strengths and weaknesses are a future teacher. My two strengths are giving students positive feedback and demonstrating a positive attitude. I prefer to give students positive feedback, rather than negative feedback, due to the fact, students is more likely to perform well in the classroom. I am an optimistic individual, and I like to show and demonstrate to students a positive attitude. On the other hand, my two weaknesses are: assertiveness towards students and not finding my role in the classroom. From time to time, I find it difficult to find my role in the classroom because I want the students to respect me, but not perceive me as their main teacher. Last week, I had a student try to sit too close to me, and I could not find the proper way and words to address to the student to quit the behavior, without hurting the student’s feelings. After this preclinical one experience, I have discovered my strengths and weaknesses as a teacher
Each year, as a new group of students enter my classroom, I will encourage them to be expressive of their imaginations in their favorite subjects, whether it be art, literature, math or music. We all have rules and regulations to follow, and each student will know that there is no exception in the school or the classroom. Another goal in my classroom will be to keep the students excited about learning, not to treat school as a game or a social event, but to encourage a unique and fun atmosphere to learn. My educational ethics toward each student will be to emphasise that everyone is an individual, they are all special and unique in their own way, and that every student does not learn on the same level. I hope my students will treat each other the way they want to be treated, and respect those that may be less fortunate.
...my education at Concord University studying Elementary Education. After graduating with my Bachelors of Science in Education, I plan to get a job as a teacher in an elementary school. I believe that there is a need for compassionate and caring teachers in elementary schools. At such a young age, I believe that it is important for elementary students to have positive role models in their lives. I am very interested in pursuing my Masters Degree at some point, but my main goal is to get out into the school system as a teacher.
I believe that the nature of knowledge is relative; it depends on the person, place, and time. All students come from different backgrounds and are brought up differently, so sometimes it can be difficult to follow a set curriculum in the classroom. The teacher has to be aware of the needs and knowledge of her classroom, yet she cannot lose...
I must see students for who they are individually and respect their ideas and opinions. Each student has a different learning style. I must take this into consideration because I want to provide a constructive learning opportunity for every student. I believe that every student has the potential to learn. My philosophy at this point is progressive.
To begin, we need to understand the nature of students. The nature of students varies between individuals. The majority of students are well-behaved and come to school ready to learn. Part of this is due to the way they have been raised, but most students are basically good. There is a small percent of students whose nature, it seems, is to make everyone miserable. I do not know if this is because of a difficult childhood at home or because the student just likes to be the center of attention. Either way, there are always students that will give their teachers a hard time. I guess this is their nature. Every individual is different, therefore, the nature of the students I will teach some day will be different depending on their background and other various things that may happen to them as they grow up. For example, a student that has lost a sibling due to an illness or accident, may become very bitter throughout life. The nature of this student’s behavior which is being shaped by this may make this student a cold-hearted and mean student. These are the students that teachers need to spend extra time with and try to make them feel loved, no matter how hard this may be. I, as a future teacher, need to look at students and try to help them out no matter how difficult that may be.
First and foremost, I believe that the teacher should be in control of the classroom. Students are young, and they do not usually know what is best for them. Therefore, the teacher should be the one to choose the lessons and decide what is going to be taught each day. This traditional practice of orienting the class around the teacher is one of the main principles of the essentialist philosophy. To encourage this in my classes, I w...
In many cases, it has become very complex to keep students interested in their education. So the teacher must be creative and find ways to keep pushing the student onward as well as upward. In order to devise the ultimate plan for educating students, a teacher must acknowledge that the “students” are what teaching is all about. The most important factor in the equation is unequivocally the STUDENT! All humans are different in some sort or fashion. But the fact still exists that we all have only this place to function in. So help by putting forth an effort to make it a better place for us all.
Like many people, my personal experiences have shaped who I am. As a future educator, I want my students to respect me as a teacher, but understand that I will be there for every one of them, whenever they need me. I will not judge them; I will only encourage them to do their best. I will show them that learning can be fun and that school is more than just memorizing facts, it’s about opening your mind to new ideas and experiencing things that will change your
I thought about the ways I could help a struggling student, and the sense of pride I would feel when they accomplished a difficult task. I thought about the way my classroom would look, and the fun activities I would incorporate. What I had not thought about were the multitude of challenges I would face in dealing with diverse students. However, having the opportunity to experience some of the challenges teachers face has not deterred me from pursuing a teaching career. As a result of my field experience, I have a far greater passion for teaching and a profound respect for the amazing teachers I have known in my life. I will work tirelessly to ensure that all of my students are inspired as well provided the tools and opportunities they require to
As a future educator, I have many goals. My first goal would be to never overpower my students. Being a teacher should not be a job, it should be a passion. I will focus my classroom around the student’s needs, rather than my own. The classroom will revolve around the students. I will be their guiding hand through education. Another goal of mine is to have the students interact in a positive way. Social interaction is very important. As students combine with peers they share knowledge and learn how to solve problems. In the real-world, this what will happen. Whenever I can, I li...
Teachers play such an important role in a child’s life, sometimes being their only source of encouragement and support. As a teacher, I want to know my students – their personality, learning style, and academic level, so I can meet their needs and create the best learning environment possible.
Education should be a part of everyone's life. A good education offers something for everyone, whether it be on the simple level or a more complex one. Education should provide provide an opportunity for students to develop a strong sense of creativity, a high self esteem, and a life long respect for learning. Education should help students establish a strong sense of confidence in themselves. A teacher will be one factor that helps a student learn and progress along their way through life. Teachers combine their own ideas with other people's to be able to give a good education to their students.
