Ecology
Ecology is a biology branch which focuses on examining living organisms in their environment. Ecologist study the inactions of organisms within their environment, including ecosystems, communities and populations that influence life on earth. Economist can see the interconnection of animal and plant populations shape physical environments and the interactions of the different species.(N/A, 2014)

Each specie and species of a community contribute to the ecosystem. Ecosystems depend on chemical and physical conditions, along with the number communities and species of all the locations such as grasslands, forest and wetlands to name a few. The processes of the ecosystem and biodiversity is sensitive to the declines. Local biodiversity declines are more important than the declines globally. These changes in the biodiversity influence the process of the ecosystem. When the diversity that is local declines the production of plants may also decline and this brings variables into the ecosystem.( Naeem, Chapin III, Costanza, Ehrlich, Golley, Hooper, Lawton, ONeill, Mooney, Sala, Symstad, Tilman,1999)

Species diversity is the abundance and variety of the different organism types in areas in which they inhabit. In the same amount of area but in different locations there will be different species. This diversity can be measured many different ways and there is no on best method.
Ecosystem diversity covers a region and the habitats variety which occurs, this creates a mosaic type pattern in a landscape. An example would be an area of the habitats and the their variety the environmental parameters like salt and fresh water, rivers, estuaries, wetlands and grasslands. This diversity is hard to measure than the other two diversities because of the community boundaries, species associations and the elusive ecosystems.(N/A, 2008)

If the habitat of a species is changed, it will cause the species to die or migrate to other places where it can find its natural habitat. No one really quite understands what it takes to be an Environmental Scientist. Environmental Science is a broad type of science. It may involve nature, animals, or anything in between. Some subsections of it can consist of pollution management, natural resources, or wildlife management. Also, there are types of programs for protecting the environment such as scientific, behavioral, economic, and political.(apu.apus.edu) Most environmental scientist go into the scientific field of it, but there are some that go in for other reasons. The Earth supports some 5 million species of plants, animals, and microorganisms. These interact and influence their surroundings, forming a vast network of interrelated environmental systems called ecosystems. The arctic tundra is an ecosystem and so is a Brazilian rain forest. The islands of Hawaii are a relatively isolated ecosystem. If left undisturbed, natural environmental systems tend to achieve balance or stability among the various species of plants and animals. Complex ecosystems are able to compensate for changes caused by weather or intrusions from migrating animals and are therefore usually said to be more stable than simple ecosystems. A field of corn has only one dominant species, the corn plant, and is a very simple ecosystem. It is easily destroyed by drought, insects, disease, or overuse. A forest may remain relatively unchanged by weather that would destroy a nearby field of corn, because the forest is characterized by greater diversity of plants and animals. Its complexity gives it stability.
Biogeochemical cycle is crucial for every living organism on Earth. It is strongly influenced by life forms, especially plants and microorganisms. A biogeochemical cycle can be defined as a continuous pathway by which conversion and circulation of chemical nutrients through both biotic and abiotic compartments of Earth (Butcher, 1992). Generally, biogeochemical cycles can be classified into three major categories which are nitrogen cycle, sulfur cycle and carbon cycle (Refer to Figure 1 in Appendix 1).
The degradation of ecosystems and loss of biodiversity is increasing at an alarming rate every year. Humans are certainly not the only reason for this, but they are the main contributors. The well-being of ecosystems affects our everyday lives - consumption and consumerism depend on natural resources. Everything humans use is derived from them, in seemingly indirect and direct ways. Yet despite the fact that humans are destroying the environment, many continue to and neglect to take important measures to protect it.
Environmental studies is a paramount field to focus on for both the present day and the future. This field of studies pertains to all people, animals, plants, and biomes around the world. Environmental Studying is important because it is only by understands the environmental processes that we can begin to take the steps necessary to correct the on-going damage that is occurring, and ultimately protect and sustain life on the planet. Unless steps are taken to try and abate and control environmental problems, which are often human-generated or exacerbated, then the environmental that we live in will continue to deteriorate. There is no life without protecting the source that sustains us. Even though I have only been alive for seventeen years, it has been long enough to see many negative environmental changes. Since I was born that population has grown by over one billion people causing deforestation, loss of wildlife, increased pollution to both air and water, and even superbugs. However, I have also been able to see extremely positive results such as an increase in the research and implementation of renewable resources. The reason I am so motivated to study environmental science is because I know that change is possible. Those who study environmental science and study have the ability to help reduce, and possible reserve, some of the damage that has been done to the environment while at the same time, helping to advance the well-being of our fellow humans.
