In the Christian religion, Easter has become a grand day of celebration in honor of the resurrection of Christ. Easter falls on the first Sunday following the first full moon after a specific time and varies on how the day is followed throughout. Each denomination of the faith varies on the celebration day, hosting various outings and activities. Specifically, the Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox denominations of Christianity view and celebrate the Holy Day of Easter differently. In addition to the various amounts of changes throughout the denominations, Easter has become modernized to what the world now sees as a big bunny handling colorful, candy-filled eggs for little children, making smiles appear left and right. However, the real question …show more content…
It holds one of the most important commemorations of Christ and allows these Catholics to thank Christ for all he has done for them. Easter, the resurrection of Christ, “marks the triumph of good over evil, sin and death. It is the singular event which proves that those who trust in God and accept Christ will be raised from the dead” (Catholic Online). This shows that Easter marks a day in which Catholic Christians can thank God for showing them that anything is possible as long as you believe in him. He has made a plan for everyone, and if people believe in that plan, people can accomplish whatever they deem …show more content…
Both branches celebrate on the same day (the first Sunday following the first full moon after the spring equinox) and they both attend services. However, Protestants specifically attend sunrise services that “are gathered before dawn and reflect the arrival of the woman at Jesus’ tomb early in the morning… [they] take outdoors, often in church yards, cemeteries, or in parks, and are times so the sun will rise during the course of worship” (Catholic Online). Furthermore, it is said to believe that the modern-day Easter bunny originated within the Protestant faith. The Protestants are said to be the ones who created the festive celebrations filled with various colors, candies, and activities throughout the day of Easter. Though they were the start of the festivities, their intent was never to disregard God and his sacrifices like some celebrations do today. They still hold their main focuses on God, but added additional fun into the
To help many readers understand that other cultures do not celebrate or recognize the same religious traditions, the Polish, Italian, and Moroccan classmates are thrown into the classroom and add to the plot. Most readers and Sedaris audience may already have a thorough understanding of what Easter is from a religious perspective already and may be surprised that some people don’t know what Easter is. To many, Easter is one of the most important Christian religious celebrations, which is dedicated to the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Knowing the important of easter, when the Moroccan student explains that she has never heard of Easter before, the other classmates try to express what it is by using and sharing their own cultural experiences. The Polish students tries to explain the events that took place and the reasoning for the holiday, while others try to express their ideas about who Jesus was. The Italian student then brought up what traditional foods are eaten on the holiday, sparking a debate between the narrator and the class about the Easter bunny and the flying Easter bell from Rome. The story gradually comes to a conclusion, with Sedaris realizing that Christianity itself has quite a few
The Eucharist is an important sacrament found among many denominations of Christianity. A sacrament is a religious rite; sacramental practices vary throughout Christianity. Catholicism recognizes the seven sacraments of baptism, confirmation, the Eucharist, penance, anointing of the sick, ordination, and matrimony. The Eucharist is a source of endless debate for the Christian faith; its history is complex and has evolved over the centuries. The Roman Catholic Church’s perspective on this religious ritual differs significantly from other offshoots of Christianity.
There is an obvious difference of opinion between two members of the Saint Elizabeth Catholic Church as it relates to whether as Christian we should celebrate Halloween. Couple A argues that is not up to Christianity to dictate what they should and should not celebrate, and uses Romans 14:5 to support their argument. Romans 14:5 reads, “In the same way, some think one day it is more holy than another day, while others think every day is alike. Each person should have a personal conviction about this matter” (Romans 14:5, New International Version). It is, therefore, their belief that they are within their rights to celebrate Halloween, as long as a family they are not dishonoring God. According to Couple A, they are free in Christ “to enjoy liberty without being judged by others” (Colorado Christian University, Case Discussion Lecture) and as such should not be condemned for celebrating a particular holiday as long at their heart remains faithful to God. They find biblical support for their argument in Colossians 2:16 which reads, “So don’t let anyone condemn you for what you eat or drink, or for not celebrating certain holy days or new moon ceremonies or Sabbaths” (Colossians 2:16,New International Version).
The founder of this religion is Jesus Christ. The way Catholics perceive their belief on this religion is also extraordinary, Catholics is one of the most powerful religions that have more followers than any other Religion. They believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the Son of the Virgin Mary. The Virgin Mary is idolized in The Catholic Church. They believe that God sent Jesus Christ to die for their Sins. The book that the Catholics use is The New Testament also known as The Holy Bible. They use this book on the Holy Day, which is Sunday. On the Holy Day, they get dressed up in Sundays best and go to Mass. Mass is one hour and in that hour they sing along to hymns, receive sacred food such as bread and wine, and have a priest giving advice on how to live a sacred life. Catholics meet together outside of Church in their own time to spread their love to God and other people. An example would be the Youth Group, they invite teenagers to come and hear what kids their own age have to say about their savior. Catholics also have retreats for Teens, Women and Men. These retreats help them become closer to God and their community. The people that go to the retreat also help spread the Gospel once they are finished attending their three day retreat. If they have completed a retreat they have the privilege to work on teams. Not many information is available because what they do is sacred and a surprise for incoming
There are many holidays shared throughout much of the world, especially Christian religious holidays. Some important holidays include Christmas and Easter, or Holy Week. This is heavily due to Christianity being a major religion in both Region (source 2). A major difference between Christmas in Spain, as opposed to Christmas in the American Midwest, is that presents are opened on Christmas eve, instead of Christmas day. While Papa Noel is growing in popularity in Spain, more native figures include Olentzero and Tió de Nadal.Three days after Christmas, in Spain, “Dia de los santos inocentes” is celebrated. It is similar to “April Fool’s Day” with people playing jokes on each other. Easter is another important holiday, in both Spain and the American Midwest. Easter is celebrated the entire week in Spain, with sculptures being paraded through the streets. This is a time of penance. The parades often
The Resurrection of Jesus Christ. No other event in history has been the object of as much scrutiny and criticism as the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The resurrection of Christ is the basis upon which all Christianity stands. If the resurrection never happened, then there would be no Christianity, as the Apostle Paul says in 1 Corinthians 15:14, "And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith." This is why opponents of the Christian faith have tried to attempt to discredit the Biblical account of the resurrection. Of the many theories of the resurrection, the Biblical account is the only historically reliable and possible explanation of the resurrection.
Some Christians go through absolute extremes to celebrate this event. For example, certain Christian denominations inflict pain on themselves by whipping etc. Others even crucify themselves to show their appreciation to Jesus. The issue of whether this should be practised is very controversial. Although Good Friday is a very solemn celebration to remember the death of Christ, Easter Sunday is very joyful and exciting.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar; it is a time of spiritual reflection, improvement and increased devotion and worship. It is also the month the Quran, the Allah (God's) last testament, has revealed on. As for that, Ramadan is hugely an important experience in the Muslim's life. During the holy month, it is expected from the Muslim to devote his time and effort for Allah, especially on the last 10 days of the month when the most honored worship is to praise Allah for everything he blessed us with. Muslims used to plan their daily life – in general – based on the five Salawat (prayers) they observed every day at prescribed times; but after the industrial revolution, and many other historical and political aspects, the daily
How can you celebrate Advent? Advent is a Latin word that actually means “coming.” In the Church, advent is a time of preparation and waiting for the birth of Jesus. Advent begins the church’s liturgical year and officially begins four Sundays before Christmas. During the Advent season, we focus on the virtues of faith, hope, and love. This Advent season, as we await the birth of Jesus Christ, I can be a sign of faith, hope, and love.
Semana Santa is primarily to celebrate the death of Christ. They take this week to commemorate his death and to confess their sins. They value the thought of suffering and sacrifice. The holiday was started in 1521 when Marqués de Tarifa came back from the Holy Land to Spain. He established the Via Crusis or Stations of the Cross. This started the celebrations of Semana Santa and the holiday has evolved greatly over the years.
Easter is a religious holiday that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ three days after his death by crucifixion about 2,000 years ago. For Christians, Easter is a day of religious services and the gathering of family. In many churches, Easter comes after a season of prayer, abstinence, and fasting called Lent. This is observed in memory of the 40 days fast of Christ in the desert. In Eastern Orthodox churches, Lent is 50 days.
Baptism and communion are two rituals practiced in Christianity for the purpose of affirming a commitment to the religion. Communion is when Jesus is remembered by the drinking of wine and the eating of bread as it represents the body and blood of Jesus Christ. This is something that is always celebrated every week at a Christian service. The spiritual aspect of communion is when Christians consume the Eucharist in belief that it is the blood and body of Jesus. This shows that the Christians are still devoted to god and his disciples are continuing to do what he asked of them. The historical meaning of Communion is recreating the meal of the Last Supper. The Last Supper occurred on the night before Jesus's death with his disciples following the resurrection of Jesus the next day. The Last Supper was when they had a traditional supper of Jesus the night before his crucifixion. Over the centuries, Christianity has evolved by forming different denominations with varying customs and practices, although, they still all believe in the Bible, the Trinity, and the teaching of the Nicene Creed. The three main branches of Christianity are Catholic, orthodox, and protestant. Other major denominations include, Angli...
According to The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Catholicism,”On Ash Wednesday, the first of Lent’s 40 days, Catholics wear a cross of ash on the forehead, a symbol of penitence since Old Testament times.” The book also describes other traditions that are practiced over the time of Lent including fasting and donating money to charity. Lent is the way that Catholics prepare for Easter Sunday.
The Mass is celebrated in order for us, his followers, to receive God’s grace within a place of worship. The Mass serves as a form of intimate unification between God and all of his worshippers and disciples that make up the Mystical Body of Christ. This is only possible
