Parole is early release from prison before the prisoner has served their entire sentence because of good behavior and to show they have changed. They must comply a set of behaviors called “conditions of parole.” Not just any criminal is available for parole, the parole boards consider a number of factors when deciding whether to grant parole. These are called “good time” credits for exemplary behavior while incarcerated. “Good time” credits will count towards their early release.
The history behind early release and parole has changed over the years on how people are put back into society. In 1847, Samuel G. Early release with parole, use to be given to criminals that were reforming to go back into society. Over the years, it's being used more to open space up in prison because it is costing too much to take care the inmates. And once they are on parole, we do not have enough people to consistently check up on them. They are back on the street with little supervision. Parolees are committing crimes and/or violating their conditions of parole because it is easy to do so. Some sentences are being dramatically reduced. Not every criminal is available for parole because it is determined by the sentence received by the court. The "parole eligibility date" is the earliest time someone can receive parole. Parole occurs after one-third of the term is completed. If someone is serving 30 years or more, it will become available after 10 years. It is decided by the court but is decided by the seriousness of the crime, threat to society, and how long their sentence is. The criminal sentenced for over 100 years could now be brought down to less than half and be eligible for parole. We need a better program to control who gets early release and
