These responsibilities include duty of care, setting limits and discipline. This can contribute to building a positive relationship with the dependent. This may result in an increase in communication between the parents and dependent as they feel more comfortable and safe due to the parent’s nurturing behaviour towards their child. Parents and carers have the responsibility of disciplining the child by guiding their dependent’s behaviour. This is done by creating rules that are understood by their children. Consequences must be met if the dependent fails to behave appropriately i.e. being disrespectful towards parent. For example, if the parent sets out a curfew of 11pm for their dependent for the intent of disciplining them to follow rules, and the dependent follows the curfew, the parent may praise them as they are appropriately obeying by their parents disciplining actions. This contributes to building a positive relationship with their dependent as the child may feel more appreciated and loved because their appropriate actions (obeying rules) is being acknowledged and praised by their parents. This can improve the communication and bond between the parents and dependent as they both feel more connected due to the increase in acknowledgment of their correct
