Introduction Attention Getter: On August 28th, 2006, my sister and her boyfriend went on a date to celebrate their one year anniversary. They spent all afternoon together and when he dropped her off at home they said goodbye, but who knew that was their last goodbye. After dropping my sister off he was on his way home when he was hit by a drunk driver and he passed away. Drinking and driving is a serious concern to everyone because it can cause people injuries or even worse their death, like how it happened to my sisters boyfriend. Preview: I will talk about what causes someone to drink and drive, then I will talk about the effects it can cause, and finally a solution to this major issue. Main Point 1 Problem: I myself have really made dumb choice that I regret. I have driven with alcohol in my system because I was the one who had dank the least. One day i was in the back seat drinking when the cops pulled my friend over for speeding and I was lucky enough to not have gotten caught. Since then I took that as a sign to not do anything like that ever again because I was given a second opportunity. Just because you were the one who drank the least it doesn't mean you are safe to drive.1 shot does the same as 100 shots and this can lead to car accidents. There were 10,076 fatalities in 2013 in crashes involving a driver with a B.A.C of .08 or higher; this was 31 percent of total traffic fatalities for the year. Point 2: Problems of drinking and driving A big problem that occurs from drinking and driving is getting a DUI. According to LA Times, “In 2014, 9,967 died in drunk driving crashes – one every 53 minutes – and 290,000 were injured in drunk driving crashes.” Now that I have talked about the problems drinking and driving can cause I will now explain to you the solution for this major problem. 4. Main point 3: What can be done to prevent drinking and driving. Drunk driving can be prevented very easily all it takes is for a drunk person to not drive. Planning how to get home and how to do so safety before any event that involves alcohol is the key. According to madd.org(Mothers Against Drunk Driving) “The best way to prevent someone from driving drunk is to make a plan for a sober designated driver, and make sure everyone agrees to it ahead of time.” the solution to stop drunk people from driving is obviously to stop drinking, however it is not that simple. What needs to be done is The person getting drunk needs to be more responsible with their actions. If you know your driving then you need to learn to take not drink or take uber. A good solution would be to have all cars get installed an interlock that way they can’t drive away if alcohol is detected in their
