Several years of research data indicates that drug use among U.S. citizens is at its highest level. The U.S. government is trying everything they can to decrease and stabilize drug use by increasing the priority of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies. During most research, it comes to the conclusion that drug addiction and experimenting with drugs start at a young age. The United States faces different adversities, but the one that affects the United States the most is Drugs. Drugs are abused every day by all types of people, whether they are upper-class or lower-class. Teenagers are influenced the most by this epidemic that’s been haunting society for the longest. Although the initial decision to use drugs is voluntary, the consent usually changes how you make a decision. The continue use and abuse of a drug over time changes from recreational to addiction. When this happens, the want of something stronger becomes the demand. In the 1960’s during the Vietnam War, many Soldiers used Marijuana to help cope with the fear of dying during the war. Marijuana a drug that effects coordination, anxiety and panic was used by political and social conventions. Marijuana is affecting society by the legalization the use of it in some states. Joining the gateway drug group (i.e. Alcohol and Tobacco) allows easy access for teens to use it. The use of marijuana masks the issue that you are facing at the time. The problem of teenagers’ drug use correlation with suicide and crime. Alcohol and drugs is the leading cause of crime and suicide among the youth. Drug activity appears in juvenile violence in two ways. First, the use of firearms is more prevalent around drug activity. Second, is the impact of drugs on a young person’s recognition. “In 1984, the United States saw a dramatic increase in juvenile gun homicide, coinciding with the introduction of crack cocaine into urban communities” (Reduce Youth Involvement with Guns, Drugs, and Gangs, n.d.). Drugs can be found in all communities. The youth has access to drugs through the no a person system.
