“The worst pitch, the worst ever product on BBC Dragons Den.”

Dirk Cousins, an inventor and the owner of a company named “ Flow signals.” He pitches his presentation to the investors in the television show on BBC named “Dragons Den.” His invention is a flashing light that can be attached to traffic signs. Mr. Dirk believes his invention is special because the light can be visible from all different angles, and therefore, the driver cannot miss the sign. He is asking the Dragons for fifty English pounds to invest into his project with 10% interest in his company profits. His reasoning for this project is connected to the safety and he believes that his light prevents accidents. However, he doesn’t present any statistics or data to support that the visibility of traffic signs or traffic lights really causes traffic accident.
Although Dirk already invested a lot of money to his project, he doesn’t have any patent or protection on his products. Therefore, he is not only able to guarantee or to proof his investment is profitable. He is also not offering in his presentation any evidence of past sales or profit made from his product. In fact, he hasn’t sold his product to anyone, nor has any offer for future sales of his product. Dirk in his presentation is offering solution to a problem that doesn’t exist. Because of his ineffective presentation, the investors deny his project. Lee introduces the topic of his presentation by a statement “…We live in the age of Info-whelm.” He explains this statement by summarizing an example of a study conducted in 2003 by researches from Berkley University in California. The researches collected all the data available digitally to today’s generations and found the amount of data available online would be about 5 x the amount of books available in Library of Congress, which is the largest Library in the world. He is explaining this fact to introduce a problem of today’s education and the actual preparedness of the next generation to the job market. He explains how today’s students and even young children are able to process and comprehend digital information. He present several examples of studies conducted to proof how today’s generation is capable to absorb digital image 60 000 x more than generations before them. Lee is effectively using illustrations and images throughout his whole presentation. He explains that today style of lectures in teaching is obsolete and ineffective. He declares how students today are being thought and prepared for jobs of the pass. He urges the educators to provide new sets of skills and tests, and new style of teachings for the future generations.
