To conclude, through comparing and evaluating Roy and Leininger's views on the four concepts of the nursing metaparadigm and taking into consideration my previous ideas of each, I was able to formulate my own philosophy of the nursing metaparadigm on person, health, nursing, and environment. Not only was I able to do this, but I was able to create definitions that can positively contribute to my present education and my future career in nursing.
I was interested and excited to watch the Youtube video "Study Less, Study Smart" from Dr. Marty Lobdell again. Within his lecture he provides interesting study techniques and tips. In the previous discussion, I mentioned how it helped me to “create a dedicated study area” while studying. Lobdell mentioned that while studying with the SQ3R method, create a dedicated study area, study actively, study with breaks in between or other helpful techniques, students increase their success in becoming a better studier (Lobdell 2011). During his lecture, these several mentioned helpful points, were some of Lobdell’s major study ideas. After years of not going to college, I didn’t know how to study efficiently no more.
Sufka provides is a technique called concept mapping. Dr. Sufka states, “Concept mapping is a strategy people use to organize and make sense of knowledge much like road maps. . .” Concept mapping takes broad topics and organizes smaller pieces of information that are included within those topics while also presenting how are related to one another. A 2008 study revealed that students who produced concept maps had better test scores than students who did not. Another technique Dr. Sufka advises to develop learning objectives is called four-question reflective learning. In four-question reflective learning, students answer four questions about their learning objectives. The answers to these questions include identifying important concepts theories or ideas, explaining why these concepts are important, explaining how these concepts apply in real world scenarios, and identifying unanswered questions. Lastly, Dr. Sufka lists a technique called notation reduction that he learned from one of his own professors.
