Downloading Music off the Internet Should be Legal
Files going back and forth without any hesitation I click on the next song that I want to download and all I could think is, "This is awesome!" I love downloading music every night and nothing could go wrong. Suddenly, I heard the sound of my computer shutting down and I asked, "What is going on?" My computer would never turn on again. I later found out that it was a virus that I downloaded using Kazaa, which is a program to download music. When I downloaded this virus I asked some of my friends, "How did that happen?"
They would just reply, "Kazaa is bad about downloading viruses." Therefore, from that point on I have been careful about what I have downloaded. About a month later, my family got a new computer and I was so excited that I could start downloading again. Viruses can get on a person's computer many different ways, such as e-mail and file sharing. For example, I got my virus through music file sharing and not through e-mail. Occasionally everyone hears about a virus that has caused major damage and it always seems like there are not very many, but in all reality, there are more than people think.
I first found out about downloading from a friend of mine. Ever since then, I have been addicted to it. I first had to get the software so I could download and next I went to "download.com" so I could get Kazaa. The download was free and took about five minutes. After that it took me an extra ten minutes to install, and once that was completed, I opened the application and began downloading. Since my Internet connection is modem my downloading speed is horrible compared to either cable or DSL connection. When I clicked on the Kazaa shortcut, it opened up with green...

Being able to download music will provide people a way to enjoy music without purchasing a CD. CD's are very expensive and an average person will not buy more than two at one time. Downloading should be made legal and be used as a public domain and not a private domain. Artists do need to be paid but they are making money also through concerts and selling CD's. There is no reason to charge people for downloading music. With my idea of having a library of music this provides an answer to the people and to the artists of the music. By people buying CD's and donating to a library the artists gain money for the music and the people gain music without having to pay hundreds of dollars to have a couple CD's.
In Marge Piercy’s, “Barbie Doll,” we see the effect that society has on the expectations of women. A woman, like the girl described in ‘Barbie Doll’, should be perfect. She should know how to cook and clean, but most importantly be attractive according to the impossible stereotypes of womanly beauty. Many women in today’s society are compared to the unrealistic life and form of the doll. The doll, throughout many years, has transformed itself from a popular toy to a role model for actual women. The extremes to which women take this role model are implicated in this short, yet truthful poem.
Hippie Barbie, written by Denise Duhamel uses the symbols of the contemporary life of the fairy-tale lifestyle into reality. The words and ideas used in this narrative poem give fantasy a different perspective. It is inferred that the speaker is a female Barbie specialist, who reflects her knowledge by using the popular Barbie doll as the main character. Throughout the poem, she gives key points that have female perspective; for instance, kissing Ken, thinking about having mixed-race children, and walking a poodle. She establishes a story-telling tone, which introduces Hippie Barbie as a real woman. The speaker is trying to address to all Americans that know deeper into Barbie doll life. By using the word “hippie” she gives a sense of rejection, opposition and liberalism towards things. Hippie Barbie reveals the ugly truth about the society based on appearances that we live in.
The poem, "Barbie Doll," written by Marge Piercy tells the story of a young girl growing up through the adolescence stage characterized by appearances and barbarity. The author uses imagery and fluctuating tone to describe the struggles the girl is experiencing during her teenage years, and the affects that can happen. The title of this poem is a good description of how most societies expect others, especially girls to look. Constantly, people are mocked for their appearance and expected to represent a "barbie-doll"-like figure. Few are "blessed" with this description. The female gender is positioned into the stereotype that women should be thin and beautiful. With this girl, the effects were detrimental. The first stanza describes the influence that a child is placed into during early childhood. Girls are expected to play with "dolls" and "stoves and irons," the usual toys that relate to the old-fashioned duties of women. A tiny miniature woman will stand in front of you, only about six inches tall. Her long blonde hair accents her sparkling blue eyes and huge white smile. Her long plastic legs bend only slightly and her pointy breasts perk out of her hot pink tank top. She doesn’t look like anything a five year old would play with, but Barbie is obviously her favorite. How does a five year old relate to Barbie? She isn’t comforting to cuddle with, you can’t change her diapers and put her to sleep in her crib. Online social networks have grown steadily in influence, especially in the United States, as they become an integral part of the college undergraduates’ culture. One primary social network is the website Facebook, which caters to the culture of undergraduate students, with its free user profiles containing the ability to post pictures, form groups, and create events. The capability of Facebook and other social networks to influence students is evident, but whether the overall effect is positive or negative is questionable. Dr. David M. Eberhardt, who received his doctorate in Education from Florida State University, addresses the issue of online social networks in his article “Facing up to Facebook” found in the publication “About Campus,” a bimonthly magazine focused on particular techniques and influences that college students experience during their education. He argues both the benefits and the negative effects of online social networks, especially those concerning incoming undergraduates while also providing advice to administrators on how to implement social networks in ways that improve students’ education. In the article, Eberhardt’s argument focuses on three inter-related areas of online social networking: the transition to college, the development of student identity and involvement in the campus community, and undergraduates’ learning abilities. However, I think that online social networks are most beneficial in helping undergraduates transition to collegiate life, but they can also lead to the development of more harmful trends in concerns to students’ identities and learning environments.

Not only is downloading this media illegal, it is also morally wrong. It is our responsibility to know the difference between right and wrong - downloading this media is something that shouldn’t be done. The artists that create the CDs pay a lot of money to make the CDs for our pleasure, and in return they expect everyone to pay for their CDs (its how they make their money). In this respect, downloading illegal music through peer to peer networks is the equivalent to stealing a CD from an actual store.
