Technology
Is advanced technology going to affect society over time? Technology is in everything we use. “The pace of technological change is rapid, and it is easily possible to foresee a time when robots become our teachers, policemen and even soldiers” (2006 Future Summit report). This quote is correct because it will have an affect on the world. Before we know it, there will be no one left. This world will be lonely without its people. It sounds crazy, but technology is changing this world for the good and the bad. The objects that gather the attention from our society are cell phones, television, and electronic devices.
Cell phones have made a huge impact on today’s society. In the past they didn’t have cell phones to carry around,

Some shows they play nowadays help kids learn then how it was before. Even the commercials can help kids learn. “Whenever a character faces the camera and asks a question, children out there in TV land are usually answering it” (Guernsey). When kids watch their favorite TV show they get into it and learn things from it. It will help with their education. TV doesn’t just affect the kids, it also affects adults because they can keep up on news and weather. People, in general, need to know what goes on in the world today so they know what to prepare for. Also, everyone needs to know how the weather is just in case there is a really bad day and no one can go out. Now on the other hand, TV can be bad sometimes. If people are constantly watching TV and won’t turn it off, it can cause sleeplessness. Less sleep equals grumpy people and the world will be a sad place. For children under 2, it can slow their early childhood development. As this quote states, “Too much TV in infancy is linked to slow language, cognitive, and attention development” (The Week Staff). Not all TV shows are good but not are all bad. Just be careful on what shows your children …show more content…
They can help you learn when you don’t have time to go to the library or if something else happens. As this quote says, “Imagine carrying all your textbooks in the palm of your hand, rather than strapped to your back” (Ophelious). Kindles and iPads make school life a lot easier for you. However, video games can be bad for your child. If your child plays violent games with killings they will start acting like the game. It will only get worse as they keep growing and continuously playing it. That’s why video games with killings or any violent shouldn’t be legal. Also, if they play online games their behavior can change. As the quote says, “When playing online, your kid can pick up bad language and behavior from other people, and may make your kid vulnerable to online dangers” (Raise Smart Kid). You have to be careful what games you let your kids play so it doesn’t mess up their reputation.
These are the few reasons why this world is changing. The society, itself, is changing because of technology. Though, technology has made a big part in this world
In the article “Our Cell Phones, Ourselves”by Christine Rosen published by W. W. Norton in 2004, she explains about how technology came about and is now taking over today’s world. Just by walking down the street today, it is visible that in everybody’s hands there is a
Television, or screen time, has become a large part of today's society. Whether it's by way of smart-phones, a television, a computer, or a tablet, screen time has negative effects on the cognitive ability of children and adolescents. It has even been proven that it can lead to Alzheimer's disease when a person, in the age range of 20-60 years old, views an hour more than the recommended amount of screen time a day (Sigman 14). In children, the amount of screen time viewed has a relationship with the likelihood of developing a deficit in his attention span; the longer a child views screen time, the more likely he is to be diagnosed with an attention disorder. Screen time, or television, can cause attention disorders and other problem with cognitive abilities in children and adolescents that effect the education they can comprehend.
Television has become a big part in children’s day-to-day lives especially in the 20th century. Children in this century rely on television to keep them entertained and educated instead of entertaining and educating themselves by participating in activities, which will teach them a lot more in life then the actual television. There is no doubt that children are most easily influenced by television because of the different content that they watch as well as the amount of time consumed watching TV. The television does have an emotional and intellectual development on children but this all depends on the content that they’re watching and the way that they absorb the information that the show is trying to send out. Different programs will portray
The Effects of Children Having TV's In Their Bedrooms Ideas: They won’t work – isolation – stay up late –watch the wrong films – violence – antisocial – obesity – they risk dangerous - strain eyes – they get ideas off nasty programs – it is noisy – especially at night – they may see nothing else in life. T.V. Kills!!! …Relationships. And you thought there was little harm in buying them that little 14” screen last Christmas. Of course they’d start watching it now and again, perhaps watching some violent action thriller, ghastly murderous films, every night.
In the essay “Our Cell Phones, Our Selves” written by Christine Rosen, the author presents a brief history on how cell phones were introduced into society and how this artifact changed people’s interactions in the physical space. Rosen describes the first cell phone that appeared in 1983 as “hardly elegant,” big and expensive (458). Cell phones at that time were mainly used by important and affluent people. However, seven years later, cell phones became smaller and affordable provoking a big change in society. This big technological advance did not only affect the United States, but the entire world.
Did you know that more than 70 percent of children ages 8-18 have a T.V. in their bedroom? Children ages 5-16 spend an average of six and a half hours in front of a screen every day while in 1995; children only spent an average of three hours watching T.V. It has become so popular because of new technology and increase in T.V. production. According to geek.com, 3 Samsung T.V. are being sold every three seconds! But children should not watch more than 6 hours of T.V. a day because it has many negative effects, like poor eyesight and dizziness, negative attitudes, and weight gain, especially in children.
...ducational television programs finally came about. These shows succeeded in intellectually educating children while also entertaining them. They have positive affects on children of all races and social status. Those who viewed it gained more knowledge over those who did not. They offered educational and beneficial programming that helps in improving a child’s vocabulary and by encouraging their reading. These programs also taught children moral values. Because public television teaches children the basic knowledge and the valuable facts of life, parents should encourage their children to watch more public television.
According to experts, children who watch too much TV tend to be less interested in physical activity, often develop verbal skills more slowly and tend to be less confident in social situations.
There are many facts that show how children are affected by television. The most obvious is the effects that television has on the brain. 'Television interferes with the development of intelligence, thinking skill and imagination.';(LimiTv) A huge element of thinking is taking from what you already know and deciding how it applies in different situation. School makes you do this, but television does not. Michael and Sheila Cole, sociologist, say that 'Children socialized to learn from television had lower than normal expectations about the amount of mental effort required to learn from written texts, and tended to read less and perform relatively poorly in school.';(Development of Children 24) Which means that it takes very little effort to follow a television show and kids are raised on television believe that it takes less effort to learn from television rather than books because they have been 'spoon-fed'; information by television. 'Opportunities for a child's imagination to develop are also denied by habitual viewing.'; (Neural Activity and the Growth of the Brain) Children need some unstructured time to allow imagination skills to form by thinking about a book or story, a conversation, or an event.
Technology is unavoidable in our modern lifestyle. You wake up, you use technology; you use technology while cooking, while eating, while driving. While you’re lying in bed before you fall asleep, you use technology, technology wakes you up in the morning. Is all the technology around you good for you, or is it harmful to your health? Was our society healthier or safer before all the advancements? So many questions and concerns about all of the technology we crave, but there are very few people who know the answers. Technology affects all parts of human life. It can create jobs, motivate people to get active, and assist people in learning, but this does not balance out that there are dangers that follow the use of technology.
...r phones update our minds suffer another loss. People are slowly losing their independence to think for themselves and the ability to rely on their own intelligence instead of a computer`s. When this happens, it can endanger the proper development of the personality and hamper the social relationships needed for life together in society. The more we succumb towards technology, the less personality we are capable of retaining. It`s come to the point that the smaller our devices get, the smaller our brains get as well. Technology has vastly improved over just a short amount of time, and societies` dependence on it is strengthened more and more with every day that passes. Yes, it makes life "easier", but the easy way out isn`t always the best way. People don`t just depend on their technology for help anymore. It has come to the point where they depend on it to survive.
According to Paediatrics & Children’s Health, T.V can teach kids many different things, such as “watching Sesame Street is an example of how toddlers can learn valuable lessons about racial harmony, cooperation, kindness, simple arithmetic, and the alphabet through an educational television format.”(2003) T.V shows can teach very good lessons to children about many important things, that these kids can use in their adult life. Another positive effect of television for kids is that it sort of opens their horizons to different things and people. For example, according to The Raising Children Network, teens and children can benefit from media exposure by developing cultural and political awareness. Television, films, magazines, and social media sites expose teens and children, who might be otherwise be limited to interactions with people from their own cultural and ethnic backgrounds, to an array of different people”. (Mokeyane) Children can really benefit from watching T.V, they can learn many educational things from shows like Sesame Street, Barney, or Caillou. Also, older children can learn about other cultures and political things that might not be talked about at home. Television really helps kids learn more important personal and educational lessons, that the generations, before, never had. Children, nowadays, have a great advantage in learning much more
First, children who normally watch TV are more likely to have delayed brain development. For example, by constantly watching TV, children will be lack of natural skill exploring such as language development on learning and attention. According to Mary L. Courage, who is a researcher professor at Memorial University of Newfoundland, “Exposure to the unnaturally fast pace of sound and image change in video material during this sensitive period might alter synaptic connections in the neural networks underlying attention and shorten the infant’s attention span” (73). Basically, she is saying that many children started at...
Disadvantages for children to watch television would be they spend less time on physical activities and social relations with their friends. Children’s body are growing up by physical activities such as playing basketball, baseball or biking, however children who spend more time on watching television might have some difficulties on growing up. By having less time with their buddies, they can feel depressions and loneliness easily. They don’t feel comfortable with talking to their friends face to face or talking about their personal topics, because they get used to listen to the television and see the images on the tv screen. It might be difficult for them to initiate a conversation with actual people and sharing their real emotions and feeling with them.
To many children, TV can be appealing because they find the colorful cartoons interesting and instantly catches their attention. But, as entertaining and fun Television can be, spending too much time looking at your big fifty inch flat screen TV can eventually impact your life. It seems like if you just spend all your time sitting on the couch, you may find yourself preparing fast meals, such as a ham sandwich thrown with some potato chips on a plate or just driving to buying something from McDonald’s. But this can eventually affect your health. If we give Television too much attention it can also affect relationships with parents, siblings or a partner. It can slowly become an easy addiction to come home to, sit on the couch and spend the rest of the day watching all the shows we like. Lastly, too much Television can affect our mood which can lead to certain thinking and
