Do Violent Video Games Really Cause Violence?
Violent video games are often blamed for causing violent crime. This has lead to many people attempting to ban or censor violent video games. These people are trying to explain social violence with video game use, but they do not have evidence to support it. When the evidence is examined, it is clear that video games are not a significant factor in violent crime. While some believe that violent video games promote violence by causing people to be desensitized and devalue life, video games are not a significant cause of violence towards society because there are other leading causes in violent crime and most gamers do not ever commit violent crimes. First, video games are not one of the leading causes of violent crime.

The fact that millions of people play violent games shows that it is probable that many violent criminals were gamers. The number of violent crimes is very small compared to the number of people who play video games and do not commit violent crime. (Kain). Because so many people play violent games and the number of violent crime is much smaller, it cannot be determined that video games are a key element in violent crime. It is probable that many gamers are violent criminals because many people are gamers. If video game use is increasing, then violent crime should be increasing; violent crime is not increasing, which argues that video games are not a significant factor in violent crime.
