I was caring for a patient that was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. After receiving bedside report, I preceded to my patients charts for morning labs and such prior to beginning my patients assessments. Upon entering the room of said patient, I began my assessment and realized that the patient didn’t seem the same as a few minutes ago when receiving bedside report. When I asked how the patient felt, she explained that she wasn’t feeling well and felt a little nauseated. I just didn’t feel right with my patient’s condition so I called the rapid response team to assist with this patient. During the rapid response, I stayed with the patient the entire time to provide safety and emotional support. I administered medications as needed throughout the process. The patient was transferred to the intensive care unit for further observation. I charted what had happened and the outcome of the situation. Nursing surrounds the concept of patient care physically, mentally and ethically. The therapeutic relationship that is created is built on the knowledge and skills of the nurse and relies on patient and nurse trusting one another. The use of nursing skills can ensure these boundaries are maintained, it allows for safe patient care. Professional boundaries are the line that nurses cannot cross, involving aspects such as patient confidentiality and privacy, ensuring legal aspects of nursing and the boundaries put in place are not breached. However, nurses accepting financial or personal gain from patient can also cross these professional boundaries. It is only through education in this area that the rights of patients can be preserved, as well as the nursing standards. My colleague and I received an emergency call to reports of a female on the ground. Once on scene an intoxicated male stated that his wife is under investigation for “passing out episodes”. She was lying supine on the kitchen floor and did not respond to A.V.P.U. I measured and inserted a nasopharyngeal airway which was initially accepted by my patient. She then regained consciousness and stated, “Oh it’s happened again has it?” I removed the airway and asked my colleague to complete base line observations and ECG which were all within the normal range. During history taking my patient stated that she did not wish to travel to hospital. However each time my patient stood up she collapsed and we would have to intervene to protect her safety and dignity, whilst also trying to ascertain what was going on. During the unresponsive episodes we returned the patient to the stretcher where she spontaneously recovered and refused hospital treatment. I completed my patient report form to reflect the patient's decision and highlighted my concerns. The patient’s intoxicated husband then carried his wife back into the house.

Interviewing a school board member was a very positive experience for me as I was able to get a very clear idea of what it actually means to serve on a school board. Before interviewing Ryan, I did not fully understand many of the implications that members have on schools and all of the decisions that they are a part of. I also never fully understood why many school board members decide to be a part of a school board in the first place, but Ryan helped me see what they do and why they do what they do.
In conclusion, there are numerous legal and ethical issues apparent in the nursing practice. Nurses should study and be as informed as they can with ethics and legality within their field in order to ensure no mistakes occur. Ethical issues vary based on patient’s views, religion, and environment. Nurses are influenced by these same views, but most of the time they are not the same as the patients. Common sense will tell you that a school board has a fair amount of influence in a school district; however, it was not until I attended a meeting that I realized the extent that influence has in shaping a school. Prior to my attending a meeting, I had no idea what went on at school board meetings. My experience has taught me a great deal about the responsibilities of a school board, as well as how their enthusiasm and forward thinking have the ability to elevate a school to greater heights.
